Call out to work late

Published

I called out to work late and not usino proper channel of the line.  I had unexpected personal issue and lead to mental breakdown and asthma attack.  I was not thanking straight.  The manager and whole team got upset.  The unit that I work is ED unit and we were so busy that day.  I have no excuse.  I feel horrible my personal issue got to me and cause everyone trouble.  I am waiting to hear back from manager for possible displanary action.

1. How should I approach my co workers to delivered sincere apologies.?

2. Should I look for new job?

3. I am going to counsels to get better but what if I have another mental breakdown?

Typical toxic work environment. We earn our pto time etc, it's made for emergencies or needing time. I called out a while back and got a text asking if I was really calling out and health called to interrogate and gaslight about how "hard it was to replace me and if I felt better call by one" I also like how we've earned this time and they gate keep when we can use it. Don't feel guilty!

I am so tired as nurses we aren't expected to have personal lives or situations that may occur out of one's control. Especially if you're not known to be someone who hasn't shown herself to be reliable and has been present for work in the past . No one has ever asked why does other occupations offer mental health days but nursing does not. A job is just that but family I'm sorry for me is over my job. When someone dies what does that job do they post that available position and that person is a mere memory. I couldn't figure out why I kept running from being a nurse and since being one I see now what the hesitation was. Hospitals don't care about those who are the heart of the operation all they care about is having a warm body to ensure their cash continues. Someone to provide a service and for which they can charge and bill for. Unfortunately this seems to be the tone all over. Your mental health is important you have to look out for yourself as the job isn't going to do it for you.

I mean the following with the greatest of respect.

You said you had an asthma attack as well as a mental breakdown. Why do you have no excuses?

You've just said you had multiple health emergencies. It's not like you woke up in the morning/prior to shift change and went "na stuff it, I cant be assed going to work today'

Should you look for a new job?

If your work place is going to disipline you for having a multiple health emergencies, don't walk, run. Apologising to your work mates? Show me a nurse who has never had a sick day and I'll show you a liar. If your work mates are being nasty to you because of it, again, don't walk, run.

Dam girl, you deserve so much better. How the hell do you hope to help your patients if you are so unwell and barely unable to stand up straight?

This whole nurses should be sacrificing themselves on the altar of patient care just needs to stop
