Call Pay

check with your ed director. It really dependes on your department, hospital, etc. some do pay from the time they reach you, rarely, others pay from the time you punch the clock. don't be mislead.

I know I read about this somewhere in allnurses, but can't find it. I'm under the impression that we are to be paid from the minute we get called, (in other words paid for the drive time). However, I can't seem to find this in the Labor Law section. Can anyone help?

Traditionally, we've been paid from time called. Now, the institution has started using Kronos ( a time card swipe system). My manager says I'm wrong, but I think I'm right. (Don't we all?)

we get our $2.50/hour and when we clock in then it goes to our work rate..or OT depending on how it adds up...

I get paid 2.00 to be oncall for the ED or for ICCT. If I get called into the ED I do not start getting me salary until I get there, different for ICCT-I get paid for each call I triage-maybe only 10 minutes on the phone, but if I have to do the transfer I get pain from when I get the call-no I do not charge them for showering, etc. but that is how we work, I may talk to 10 different facilities during my oncall, ever leave my house and get pain 2 hrs, I also may get a call, take 15 minutes to drive to meet the ambulance or the plane, and get paid for it, also for my paper work time after the transfer-usually 15 minutes. The other service I work for 2.00 an hour for oncall, then clock starts ticking once I accept call.

at least we get 3.00/hr, then 1 1/2 for pay if we get called in...which happens almost every call shift, lately.

Thanks to all who responded to this thread, I guess I was just dreaming that it was pay from the time you're called...my manager is right about this one.

One ICU I worked in paid you $25 for each 4 hour period you were on call. If you got called you were paid OT for time punch in to punch out. You also got the OC $25/4hr for that whole time you were oncall. So oncall for 12 hours and called in after about 3 hours, got there in an hour. Paid $75 oncall pay, plus OT for the 8 that you were on the clock. I used to sign up for 8 hour oncall periods, when friends told me that having to stay home or within reasonable time to get to work in hour and a half wasn't worth it I just told them that the hospital was paying me $50 to clean my house. It was a good deal and we rarely had staffing problems in the ICU with its quickly evolving acuity and census.

For us it's $2 an hr, until we pucnh in. Then it's 1.5 time. When we punch back out it's $2 an hr.

The way gas is going up, it barely breaks even for me.

Ours the last place I worked and had to do on call was $5.25 hr while on call. The contract langauge called for time and a half from the time they got ahold of you and a minimum of 2 hours. Oh and will still got the call pay as well.

Also the call in person could not be used to cover short staffing issues. It was for emergency type situations ie muliple trauma arriving at once, multiple MI's arriving at the same time. Hence it was a rare thing to actually get called in. It was self scheduled, first come first served in 4 hr blocks 8 hrs every 6 weeks. Most took their time before or after a regualr shift- ie the few times I got called in it was I had to stay the extra time at the end of my shift till things calmed down.

We work mostly 12 hour shifts, so our full time is 72 hours, not 80...we don't get time and a half until >80 hours...call time included

When I am on OR call I get 2.00 ann hour and then straight time from the time I am called until I sign out. I don't get time and a half because I am salaried. A lot of places I have worked pay this way.(Northeast)
