In Labor & Delivery, our patients often push the call light by accident, as the button to call the nurse is next to the TV channel-changer button

(No, the call system company did NOT ask for nursing input on the design...)

Some of our staff reply to the "Oh, I'm sorry...I pushed the button by accident" with a loud "Strike One...!" response....

Others try "We'll still let you keep the baby anyway" ;)

and others,"It's OK...we'll send the beer & pizza to the other room." :D

I worked at a hospital, where the call light and T.V. changer was on the same control device, too. Call light was always getting accidently pushed. Who designed those stupid things?! Let's hunt him/her down!!

I have a funny call light story to tell. One time our charge nurse was transcribing a med order. It was one of those hectic days She had just written Pericolace down on the med sheet, when she picked up the call light receiver and said "hello, Pericolace, may I help you?" We never let her live that one down!

Forget coffee. Nothing beats the early-morning rush of walking into your post-op CABG patient's room to find him pushing buttons and turning dials on the control box attached to his internal temporary pacing wires while complaining, "This danged TV control isn't working right!"

At a LTC we had an elderly lady who would GOD GOD ARE YOU THERE? for hours at a time As you can imagine this was quite draining on the staff finnally one of the nurses pushed the intercom button lowered her voice and Called her name "MINNIE" a few seconds of quiet, then yes who is this. MINNIE THIS IS GOD, YOU HAVE TO STOP YELLING MY NAME NOW YOU ARE STARTING TO ANNOY ME!" Minnie never yelled for God anymore and had a "I know somthing you don't know" grin on her face for the longest time after.
