Call-backs from nurse recruiters

After a VERY long time of applying to new jobs in the area I desperately want to work (OB), I have finally gotten 2 calls back. I am ecstatic, because I never before got so much as a call. BUT, of course I missed the calls. I called each of these recruiters back, and now they are not getting back to me again! Has anyone experienced this? I missed the calls by 30 minutes and 2 hours. Why do you think they aren't calling me? It has been 2 days now.

Recruiters suck. If I did my job an incompetently as they did theirs I'd be fired in about a day. I missed a recruiter call once, called her back the next morning, then proceeded to page her three times and leave four voice mails over the next three days. It's not that I wanted the job so much, it's that I just wanted to annoy her. I can't get recruiters to call me back for PRN jobs (very low risk for the employer.) So, anyway, it's not just you. I advise you to call the OB managers where you want to work and tell them what's going on. You've got nothing to lose.

Yes, yes I have. And it took me several days to get back in touch with the recruiters.

If you have a cell phone, make sure you give them that phone number as your primary point of contact (make your home phone your backup contact number). Then always keep that cell phone turned on and with you. If you don't currently have a cell phone, you could look at getting a prepaid phone--those are cheaper than contract phones, and since they have no committment, you can use them only for job hunting.

If a cell phone isn't an option, I'm afraid your only other option is to stay tethered by your home phone. But that deprives you of having a life...neverminding that the minute you do step away from that phone, no matter what time of the day it is, that is when the recruiter will call you :(

Hang in there and good luck!
