California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

It's tough out there! There are always several hundred people competing for the same positions, and even landing an interview these days is a blessing. I haven't heard back from Washington Hospital, but 425 applications isn't that bad compared to the last job I interviewed at that had 900+ applicants! Trying to stay positive. Good luck, everyone!

Just keep at it and keep on finding ways to improve your resume to make it more competitive. Experience and being proactive will trump straight A's and honors. Hospitals don't care for good grades. I interviewed down south at a magnet hospital and there were 400-500 applicants for 5 spots in a new grad program. I interviewed well and did the best I can. Did not get it but life goes on, learn from it, and work at your interview skills. I eventually landed a job of my choice/department but it was definitely a grind to get it.

hi ogechi2007,

Hi oreg

Just curious as to what your background is when you applied to Valley Medical Center and got a call for interviews. Were you working as an RN? CNA, LVN? Were you already employed there?

Got a rejection email.

 So much for "I have a good feeling about this one!"

I got an interview there. I have a BSN and I am waiting to take boards with a year of Nurse tech experience. The interview was intense. Still waiting on response.:uhoh3:

I posted an upcoming new grad program under the California's 2010 New Grad RN Program thread.

This might be of interest to CA job seekers:

With a $500,000 grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, CINHC is tackling the difficulty faced by new nursing school grads who cannot find jobs because of the troubled economy.

to the above posting: This sounds like great news!! Is this something that we will just keep our eyes open for by checking hospital websites or is their a way to apply for a chance to be a part of the 250 new grad nurses looking for work?? Its about time we hear some awesome news like this!!:yeah: Thanks to CINHC!

Hi everyone and thanks for all this great info! I was on the Cedar's website, but could not find actual dates for upcoming New Grad programs. Any tips on where to find this information? Any info would be very much appreciated.

I actually applied and was sent a reply message stating they will not be taking new grad applications again until Jan 2011 and this will begin hiring process for Spring of 2011. If I get any further info I will post it.
