California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

It's a very difficult market out there, market yourself besides applying online. Very proactive and call recruiters for updates on your application. Study at least 100 questions per day for your ncles review, I studied between 200 and 300 questions per day until I took nclex (I passed on first try). Good luck on all your endeavers and remember to be persistent! Stay positive and you will nail your first job on the spot, many blessings sent your way! :D

Good luck girl!

Hello people!

I am a new graduate nurse (BSN). I will be relocating to California. It is so hard to apply for a new grad program and at the same time I am planning to take the critical care/ICU training in preparation for CNA. However, I got an offer for a pediatric nurse in the ward. If I will be hired for this job, do you think this will be a prerequisite for ICU later? Bacause I am not sure about this.

Thank you so much for the response.

Hello,

I wanted to thank you for the reply, it was my first post :nuke:. I will take your advice and inspirational wisdom to get a job and pass boards.

P.s. I hav another question...so I need to get my ACLS, certification and I am wondering how to go by doing this? I know lots of hospitals require these certifications. IF I am missing any others let me know soon. Again I am a BSN new graduate nurse seeking a job...yet to take boards end of January 2010.

In case noone has mentioned this in this thread before... Check out http://www.aftercollege.com/. You can narrow search to New Grad programs in area of choice. Hope it's helpful to some.

Job hunting sucks. Takes alot out of you to be so darn positive 24hr/day. But you have to be.

Good luck to you.

P.S. to jaguilar

RE: ACLS

Hate to use the term, but Google it. You'll get results listing companies that offer new and refresher certs. Check out as many as you can for best price, location, days/time required to complete. If I can find the name of the co. that I've been using, I'll post it.

got an email finally from a new grad program at san francisco general hospital a few months ago... and it went something along the lines of "..due to budgetary cuts....new grad program has been cancelled." how sad...
