This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.
I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.
I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.
The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.
At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.
Ironically today I started a temp position in Kaiser as an LVN (which Ive been prior to getting my RN) and two out of the three nurses I worked with were over 50 and one of them was retiring tomorrow!
I just moved to Stanford from graduating from a accelerated second degree program Virginia. I was wondering if anyone knows of any possible openings for new grads in the Palo Alto area. I am so overwhelmed and do not know where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)
did you try to find a job before you left? the bay area is especially saturated with nurses, there are several schools in the area that graduate nurses 2x a year. there are people in this area that have been looking for 18 months. I graduated from an accelerated program last December, there were 29 of us in my class, all of us had contracts with local hospitals for jobs, and about 1/2 the hospitals canceled the contracts because they didn't have work
Valley Care hospital in the Livermore area will accept a year of SNF experience though. I don't know if they consider you a new grad or what, but they definitely consider that experience.
I noticed there are a lot of people talking about BrightStaff and saying that they were all told that Brightstaff is still looking for more people in their area. Are they just saying that and leading people on???
Being that I have had a really bad experience with another wellness clinic....
Do you think BrightStaff is another loser company that is taking advantage of nurses (new grads) like some other major flu shot clinic that is on Allnurses???
these don't say any experience is required... they are level 1 nursing jobs or IP jobs... not a "new grad program" but a level 1 nursing job/or IP job which I believe means they may consider hiring new nurses without experience... if you have an active RN license or IP license. worth a shot to apply...

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: The assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients and their families in a safe environment. Hey, i'm new to this and am so glad that i ain't the only one experiencing this dilemma!!!! I didn't think that once i graduated i would be having such a HARD time looking for a new grad spot. My cousin who graduated May 2008 just landed a job in LV this September...so if he can land one....there's faith for the rest of us even tho it took him like 1.5 years!??!?!? We just need to definitely keep our heads up!!!! Although i didn't read all the threads....everyone has been really informative....so keep postin and if i find or hear anything i'll do the same! It took me a couple months and a 5 hour move from home to find my first job, it's crazy... and I like looking to see what's out there so this is a perfect place to share what I find ) I just hope it heps someone to get their first RN job. After my first year of nursing experience, I moved back home and it was much easier to land an RN job with that year of experience under my belt; had 2 job interviews and 2 offers. So don't despair all, just get that first year of experience wherever you can get in! Good Luck to you all and I'll keep my eyes posted. Here are the last couple of things I found:
