California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?

U.S.A. California

Published

Greetings.

This is my story- I graduated from Nursing School in May 2008 (ADN) and passed my boards in October 2008.

I live north of San Fran and have yet to find a New Grad Program. I've been on Allnurses since last summer when I started studying to pass the boards. I used Allnurses especially the "random facts" thread which helped me pass the boards with flying colors. My family is ready to move out of the area because there is no new grad program avail out here.

I have spent hours online looking for New Grad positions in Washington State, Southern Ca, New Mexico, and Ashville NC. These are the areas, along with the Bay Area that I am interested in. I am looking to see if someone would like to buddy up or we can all help continue this thread and we can help search together for all the possible positions in the areas mentioned above or just in California. I have found that the work done alone is not enough or that I have just missed an application date, or I didn't know that blank blank just hired for the season.

The random facts thread was so hot because it was encompassing info about one main event with up to the minute info. Maybe a thread like "California's 2009 New Grad RN Program- Who's hiring right now?"- and it would include SNF's and whatever we can think of that a new nurse can do in the community, would be like the "random facts" thread. I'm sure I will hear from an Allnurses thread monitor about if this is OK or not.

At this point I am just trying to be creative and use the best resource online, which to me has been this sight.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Hey,

I'm new to the forum but a long time job seeker (going on 9 months). One of my fellow nurses has been working with CINHC surveying hospitals about new grad programs. There are 2,200 CA new grads this year. Only 1/3-1/2 will be hired in 2009 in CA. This info is off 64% of hospitals. Just thought I'd share this.

Thanks for the interesting stats! Good to have perspective on this.

HireMe's list includes names of positions new grads can apply for (if the hospital doesn't have a new grad program) and HR or nurse recruiter contacts.

It is very useful to have these resources consolidated.

How could I get a copy of your list? I graduated in December 08'. I have applied at over 800 jobs in California. I went on the internet, got a map and looked up every hospital and medical center in California and applied to everything I could. No response :( I've even had previous instructors review my cover letters and resume to help me make them better. I could use all the help I can get. I don't know what a PM is, but if that works, I would really appreciate your trouble. Thanks so much! Wendy

Hi Guys,

Can somebody send me a PM with the list as well. Still looking since December. thanks

I feel the same way at this point. As one of my classmates put it New Grad RN is the new scarlet letter.

*groan* ugh. WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY!?!?!?!?!?! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Oh, yeah....REEEAAAAALLLL nursing shortage we've got here in the U.S! (*tongue-in-cheek*) Reeeaaaallll nursing shortage.

Or do new grads "not count" as nurses....? That's certainly what it feels like.:angryfire

HireMe, I would like a copy of this list as well. Also, did you have a difficult time even finding a job in Nevada? It'll be a year in December since I graduated from nursing school and I still haven't found anything in California. I'm thinking I should hold out until the end of the year but then again I probably should start looking elsewhere for a job- even if it means moving out of state. I was interested in Washington, Nevada, and even Texas. Anyone else have any ideas, leads, or info? Thanks!!

I graduated in May 09 and I recently got a job in Nevada (I was looking in both CA and NV) - Anyway, I did a whole bunch of work researching California hospitals, collecting HR phone numbers and getting information on dates of New Grad Programs - I hate to throw away all this hard work so I was wondering if anyone wanted a copy of the list I made - I have listed hospitals by county, got the numbers to their HR departments, and have info on new grad programs - it is not complete, but there is a lot of information here. I do not know how to post it to this website, does anyone know how to exchange documents or anything like that?

HireMe congrats on finding a position even if it meant going out of state. Unfortunately I am in the same shoes as everyone else and I've been looking since this past March.

Can you please provide me with the list as well? Thanks in advance. Good luck with your career. God Bless!!!

Hi - Is there anyone who would be kind enough to email me the list of CA hospitals? It would really help me with my search and I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you for all that hard work!

For Northern CA East Bay job seekers - No jobs there currently, but another place to check is http://cchealth.org/jobs/

They also have ongoing recruitment for PHN's and I know someone who was hired (more than 5 yrs. ago) right out of a BSN program. Their requirements may have changed by now.

Could you pm me or email me the list too, it would be so helpful! Thanks

any way someone could also pm the list? would really appreciate it, been looking since december...
