California's 2011 New Grad Program

Published

When I saw that Torrence Memorial had closed their applications to their New Grad program starting in March 2011 I realized we needed a new grad 2011 thread! The 2010 thread was a great place to ask questions and get answers about upcoming new grad opportunities. So let's make this thread the same. :)

First off, When did you graduate?

:nurse:

Any old new grads out there? How long have you been looking for a job?

Has anyone tried to apply to VA hospitals? Does any know if VA hospitals are New Grad friendly?

TeleNurse, Yes, that definitely helps. My application still says "transferred to hiring dept." so if it doesn't change soon to "under consideration", I will consider myself out of the running. My app is also for tele. Good luck to you!!!! Would you mind posting if you do get an interview? Thx :)

I don't know if you have this information already, but I randomly checked my status and it said the position has already been filled.

Thats funny. I also randomly checked my status today & it said the same. Oh well! Thanks for the info tho!

How was your interview? I have mine at the end of this week and I would appreciate any tips and help from you. Was it behavioral or clinical scenarios q-s? Thank you.

I honestly was not a fan of their interview. It was a small panel, and it lasted a little over an hour. But I was there for almost 3 because they started over an hour late. They asked me about 20 scenario questions and to provide a million examples. I know there were at least 20 because at one point, one of them said she was on #17. I think the interview would have been better if I actually had RN experience. But instead, I had to dig through my student years to provide examples for some crazy questions. Needless to say, I don't think I got the position.

Thank you for the info. At least I won't have much expectations to get a position there. The questions with examples are the hardest for me as I do not have experience...

Hello,

Dont worry about not having actual RN experience! It is expected! you are a new grad. I was interviewed and asked a million examples too. I had already been interviewed by another hospital who told me that they couldnt offer a position because i wasnt able to provide examples. they said that all they wanted were examples from nursing school clinicals and nothing else. so for my northridge interview i "prepared" some examples and was ready to answer all the questions. I was offered a position.

thanks for encouragement. can you please share some of the "examples" questions that they ask

well....first question of all is "tell me about yourself"....so make sure you do some research on how to answer that one (they really dont care to know where you were born or whether you like to cook or not).

other questions:

give me an example of a situation in which you had to think quickly....example of when you used team work....example of when you used the nursing model or maslows...etc... just make sure you never say "this has never happened to me"...just make one up...lol... good luck....and make sure you provide them with text book answers...so for example if you r supposed to say when u used maslows, make sure u say how and why u used each level of maslow.....

Anyone know what the deal with Northridge is? I applied to their new grad program back in May, never heard back and thought they were done with interviews/selection process.

Yesterday I got a call to take the math test, which I did and now they're sending me another test.

Are they still interviewing people? I believe I read some of you already got an offer from them so I'm wondering what is going on......

When I talked to the nurse recruiter yesterday (right before the interview), she said they selected the first batch of people to be interviewed. They didn't choose everyone from that batch, so moved on to the second batch. I was in the second batch. They're beginning with the third batch. I actually just got the call from Northridge, and it wasn't good. My first phone rejection. Oh well. They told me they only had 1 position left for Med/Surg (they selected 15), but now it's all been filled.

Thanks for the update Ms. Informed. I would think after three rounds of interviews they probably only have very few spots left.

I'm sorry you didn't get the job, keep trying there's something out there for all of us!

Northridge is interviewing by unit. So u just have to wait until they start interviewing for ur unit of choice. I had to take the same tests couple of weeks ago.
