California RN on probation

Published

Hello there,

I'm a California RN just starting on probation. I'm in the process of looking for work and would like some advice on when/how the subject of probation should be brought up. Also, are there any specific employers to seek out considering I'm on probation? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have restrictions on your practice with the probation? Like no narcs, no nights, etc? That will help guide our advice.

Welcome!

No restrictions given. I'm in probation as a result of something from 6 years back. Probation monitor told me that upon submitting potential employers request to hire me that this information would be disclosed at that time. Seems like something I should know prior to approaching an employer, but that is what the probation monitor told me.

Thank you.

If you are not on the OIC exclusion list and don't have restrictions go for the job you want - you might check to see where your peers in Nurse Support group are working as those employers are generally probation. diversion friendly.

Way back when I go my first job in Diversion I was told by my case manager not to mention I was in Diversion until I had a job offer because You wanted to be sure that being in a program was not a reason for them not making an offer, Ultimately I broke down in my interview, cried and said I had a baby to feed at home (all True) the DON gave me a hug and said she admired my courage. Offered me a job and I'm still there 15 years later. I was the first nurse in a program that she hired and she calls me her great experiment - But we do have several nurses in programs working for us and it's a nice safe place to do your time.
