California "travel" RN

Published

I keep hearing about a lot of nurses from around town who have their California license and fly to CA for 2 weeks and work, then fly home. Im not sure if they work directly for the hospital or for a travel agency. I assume it's a contract with the hospital since they mention the hospital pays their travel expenses, but housing is up to the nurse. Has anyone else heard of such?

I have been able to "block" my days together as a traveler at every facility that I have worked at so far. I have not known anyone at any of the places. I request it but dont require it.

I would love to hear about the staffing companies kayvee926, I am writing to you from Hampi, India where I can hear the monkeys wrestling in the coconut trees and travel nursing is definitely for me.

Hello,

I am in the process of getting my California license and I’m going to sign up for travel nursing but I am so scared and having anxiety. I have no idea what to do with my car, I have no idea where I want to live in California, and I don’t know which hospital has an easy or an okay med surg floor that I can work. I’m looking for less stressful environment. Someone please advise.

An experienced recruiter will give you good advice about travel assignments. It is their job! It is your job to find good recruiters who will get you a friendly assignment well within your clinical skillset for the first couple of times - prioritizing that over money. Talk to at least ten and that will by itself help you sort out all the BS you will hear. Pick the best three by how well you communicate together and how much you can trust. Without either, you cannot possibly have a good working relationship. Do all the paperwork with those three agencies and see what is on offer. You will also get a vibe from the interviewing manager before you commit.
