Thoughts about Unitek College LVN program ??

U.S.A. California

Hi,

Could people kindly share their thoughts if Unitek LVN program is a good choice to go with ? Does it meet the hours criteria that hospitals require in order to hire a new employee?

How many people who pass out of Unitek get hired in acute care facilities? Is it worth spending lots of money to pursue LVN from Unitek; though I must say that between time and money, time is more important to me.

I would appreciate any information you can provide me about the LVN program through Unitek College. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kurby,

As a matter of fact I just visited their campus today...I am keeping all options open and I talked to a really good advisor there....the program definately isn't for everybody but they're accredited...It's an intense 11 month program and they do have job placement....from what they show me....some acute facilities DO hire their graduates....but be aware that most hospitals DON'T hire LVN's...Regarding their courses....they do offer IV certification to their graduates....and they also are in the process of having an RN bridge course to LVN's (you have to be an LVN in order to get into their program) but it's not final as of yet....they're in the process of launching it....so that's another perk....all fees are included in tuition....licensing fees, uniforms, books, and some medical supplies....according to the information I received some of the courses that you might have taken at CC/JC might be able to get some sort of credit....no that they transfer over....but you'll get a discount on tuition which is nice....I was very satisfied after I left the campus today....The biggest advise I can offer is talk to an admissions counselor...

Yeah im thinking of going there on JAN 09 if the loan process went through. DO any of you guys know the info. about going to a university for RN after completing LVN at UNITEK? Hey, I am thinking of doing the 11 month lvn program at unitek then the 8 month LVN to ADN program for Jan 10. How did the program work out for you? I have already taken so many GE courses at a JC. Do you know about how much money they knock off the tuition if you have some classes already completed?

Hi Elorraine11,

I, too, am thinking of going to Unitek in Jan. What campus are you looking at? I am looking into the Sacramento campus. I am currently in school at a CC, but don't want to wait for all the pre reqs and then that great wait list! Please keep in touch, maybe we will be classmates?

I went to Unitek- Santa Clara for my LVN and graduated Dec '06. It's 11 grueling months, they adviced me not to work, but I did anyway. My bf also went to same school but different location and he became a supervisor after a year working at a Sub-acute/rehab facility. I guess it depends on a person.

hey!! im also looking into the Jan. 4th 2010 program. i have my test next week. im kind of nervous =/

the advisor kind of scared me with the 3 week crash course though. i havent really been exposed to microbiology so im a bit shaky about that.

thats great! i turned in my deposit a few weeks ago so I am there for sure!

It's true though that the advisor was scary about the first 3 weeks. but i was thinking and if it was as difficult as they made it sound then i think a lot more people would be dropping out. I wonder how full the Jan 2010 santa clara class is....

yeah thats actually very true! and also the advisor i spoke with trying to get me to do the m.a program first and then do the lvn. i think its just a way for them to make an extra 11,000 dollars. because either way, we would have to go through the 3 week crash course, you cant really get out of it. for me, there going to put me in the fremont program for the crash course and then if i pass ill be going over to santa clara campus! =) are you preparing yourself for the crash course? like going over some basics for each subject?

hi elorraine11,

i, too, am thinking of going to unitek in jan. what campus are you looking at? i am looking into the sacramento campus. i am currently in school at a cc, but don't want to wait for all the pre reqs and then that great wait list! please keep in touch, maybe we will be classmates?

hey have you decided which campus your going to be going to? =)

Really? i didnt know that you could do the first three weeks in fremont! thats nice to know. will you be starting on jan 4th also? and what is the MA program?

Right now i am reviewing on some anatomy, physio, and micro, although i spoke to a girl who is in the program now and she said that the first three weeks are alot of math! which scares me!
