Mount St. Mary's College Traditional BSN program?

U.S.A. California

Hi everyone, so I've been searching the forums for posts on MSMC's TBSN program and only found posts on the ABSN program... Has anyone else applied/been accepted for Fall '12? Hopefully this post gets some replies :)

Good luck to everyone!!!

Thanks! I took the nclex on the 3rd and passed with 75 questions. Part of your tuition goes towards purchasing a review course with Kaplan once you graduate to prep you for nclex and it was really helpful! All my friends who took it passed as well, which leads me to believe that the mount really prepares you! Everything is definitely falling into place, I have my new hire session with ucla this week and a physical too.

That's so exciting!!! Congratulations!!! :D it definitely seems like they'll prepare us. I had orientation yesterday and everyone was amazing, I'm really excited.

I have a question regarding classes... Do you remember if you took religious studies or bio112 (nutr.) your first semester? My advisor told me that I might want to take RS first so that I can adjust to the load, and nutr. next semester. Any advice on that one?

And congrats again :) you must be really proud - I'm proud of you! :p

I took nutrition first semester, then RS second semester. I'm not sure how many classes you are transferring in with, but if it is kind of a lot, you may want to take some during your summer breaks. It can be difficult to get classes that work with your Nursing schedule. Also, junior year is kind of hectic, and it was particularly hard for me because I was taking 15 units each semester. So if you can do a summer class, i recommend it. Also, if the program is still the same, you will have clinicals every tuesday and thursday, but you will have to go to the hospital on monday and wednesday to pick a patient and get the necessary info to complete a care plan. Sophmore year careplans took a long time, so don't take a lot of classes on those days, to give yourself enough time to complete the care plans.....also, i didn't buy all the books at first because I couldn't afford them, but i definitely recommend you get the Med/Surg book. Its like a bible and SUPER helpful with careplans; I had the pathophsyiology book for first semester and it wasn't enough. i got the med/surg book second semester and wished i had it for the first. Also, are you commuting or dorming?

@ Tdan, I also sent you a PM :)

Yeah I couldn't agree more. I'll definitely be taking summer classes to knock as many out as I can - ideally, I'd like to focus on the nursing courses in fall/spring, ya know. Looks like the program is exactly the same - reg 1a & 1b, skills, and RS or nutrition. Nutrition filled up pretty quickly so I have to take RS this semester. Unfortunately, it falls on M/W at 4pm (clinical days). I also have to take art :/ not that I don't want to, but the more study time I have, the better. I'm commuting... From Woodland Hills lol. But my lease is over in December and I'm planning to move as close to school as possible after that. What about you - did you commute/dorm?

I commuted from Valencia all three years...it's not too bad since the classes start at 7, you miss a lot of the traffic. I recommend getting a locker. You can sign up usually at a table in the circle on the first day or at student affairs on the 2nd floor. Get a 3rd floor locker if you can, they are bigger :)

That's true - the upside to having class that early :p thanks for the tip, I definitely will! I still can't believe how nice and helpful everyone is.

Sending you a PM regarding clinical site assignments :)

I've been considering MSMC's BSN program. How difficult is it to get in as a transfer? I'm coming from CSULA.

They take anywhere from 10 to 20 tansfers MAX. You really have to have phenomenal grades and a good essay. You can always call the admission office and they can give you stats on how many transfers they have taken. If your gpa isn't that great, you'll get extra points for a great TEAS score too. I think they took 12 people my year

I read u went to pierce college, so did I. When I began I was doing bio but recently changed to nursing. I took chem 60, 101, and 102. I got A's in all 3 do u know if I have to take chem 51 for saint Mary?

Dear jesusgal1023

I was just recently accepted to Mount St. Mary College Los Angeles as a pre-nursing student for the BSN program, this fall I will be an incoming freshman however my main concern is that I don't know how many pre-nursing students are accepted into the BSN program. I tried going on the website to find my answer but unfortunately it was not there. By any chance do you know how many pre-nursing students are accepted into the nursing program?

Sincerely,

gbarreiro
