FNP job outlook San Diego

So, it is obvious from reading this and other forums the job market for RN's in San Diego is competitive. How is the nurse practitioner market? My husband has tons of family there and he wants to move back so badly, I am apprehensive. I have 9 years RN experience and a good resume but I am currently in a FNP program and he seems to think as soon as I complete the program we can move! I'm thinking I may need to get some experience first. Any feedback is welcome. I've seen post about people working as RNs because the pay is better or they simply can't find a job:(

Last statement is correct. Lots of bedside RNs with their np license.. Not working as np. My unit alone has atleast 3 individuals working on their np/dnp.

bump!

I would love to hear any updates available on this. I am currently in an accelerated FNP program in Massachusetts and would love to relocate to San Diego after I graduate.

Unless you know a doctor, another NP, or a hiring manager, it would be hard to get an NP job without any NP experience in San Diego.

Most clinics do not hire new grads unless they know/like the person or they are desperate (rare event). RN experience does not count. I have a great RN background (charge RN, advanced clinician, mentor, preceptor, awards, performance projects, committees, PCCN cert, ACLS, etc.). But none of these things really matter.

I am still looking for an NP job that is part/full time status. I have applied for 30 positions, had at least 3 interviews, and 2 phone calls. I've been waiting for 3 months now. My advice is for you to get at least 1 year of NP experience wherever you are, especially if jobs are easy to find and pay is great!
