Well in California the state board is what you make it, it can be hard or it can be made easy. Our state board is comprhensive, proabably not like other states. But I'm studing to take the stae board before I move to Arizona, and to get my BA in Community Health, and that's another thing if you get your license here you can take it anywhere. But coming from another state or even country you have to have our license and or take our boards.
The NCLEX exam is a national exam, it is not an individual state exam. Whether you take the exam in California, London, Hong Kong, Ohio, Illinois, it is essentially the exam that you will receive, if you take it on the same date. It is computerized based, and it picks up on your strengths, and what are not your most favorite areas of nursing.
If you come from another state, you do not take the "Boards" again, once you pass it in one state, it is yours for life. All you do is endorse your license to another state, provdided that you meet the new state's educational requirements.
Hope that this helps clear up any false information that is roaming out there.:)
