California licensing timeline 2018

Published

Anyone NPs practicing in California know how long it took to get your license from the BRN? On their website it states 10 - 12 weeks, but is this after you've submitted your application and furnishing info or is this after your school has sent in your official transcripts to the BRN? It also appears that their is some variation from when others have received their license, with some receiving well before or after the expected processing time.

Finally, has anyone ever gone in person to request their license? I'm considering doing this to expedite the process, but don't know if this is the best approach. If so, who do you recommend I go to/ask for?

Thanks!

I've been licensed in California over a decade so my experience may not be all that relevant but for what it worth....it took the full 12 weeks after having my NP school submit transcripts. I flew from Miami to Sacramento to give my package with everything completed thinking it would save time. It didn't. The CA BON is slow and always has been.

The Board of Registered Nursing has a processing timeline that changes based on number of applicants on their website. Not sure how accurate it is:

Processing Times

My application for the NP portion (already had my RN for the state) was submitted June 15, 2018. Just last week I got a letter stating I was missing a form. Come to find out that my university only submitted one of two forms I sent them previously. So now I am back in the waiting loop.

I graduated from my California based NP program (not an online program) on June 16th 2018, I submitted my California BRN application + furnishing application on 6/26/18, and it still says pending... my friends who graduated from my program submitted on 5/10/18 and on 5/31/18 and received their NP license on 6/24/18... for the last 3 weeks BRN claims to be processing applications received June 1-15th 2018... with a processing time of 12-14 weeks. I hope by some miracle by the end of August 2018, mine will be processed. This is quite frustrating to say the least!

Same! I've also submitted my app for licensure on June 13, and the processing time hasn't changed in weeks!

Have you tried to contact them, other agencies to try to expedite your processing? I'm considering it but it hasn't been a full 12-14 weeks, so fear they'll just laugh in my face...

That's even more worrisome that you submitted yours on June 13 and you still haven't heard back and it's been exactly 2 months sorry to hear that. But definitely does not make me feel better since I submitted mine almost 2 weeks after you. I haven't tried to contact the BRN or any other agencies for the same reason that you stated. It is just nerve racking to think that it will be almost October if they take the full time to process the applications...

Got my license today!!:D
