Nurses New Nurse

Published

I will be graduating in May 2010 and moving to Los Angeles. I currently live in Missouri and I know that here, new grads can work as nurses prior to taking NCLEX. I am wondering if it is the same in California. Can I work as a grad nurse in May if I do not take NCLEX until June??

Thanks,

Claire

yes you can do that but dont count on it. new grads without their licenses are pretty much inhireable in california at the present

Thank you. Could I possibly apply for LPN jobs or CNA jobs? I just need to have a job during that month after graduating but prior to taking NCLEX.

CNA yes, LPN not unless you have that license already

I would say your only disadvantage is that you didn't go to school here and don't know anyone to network with. I wish you luck becuase the job market for new grads here is very tough and we are all moaning about it! Hope you are one of the lucky ones - let us know!!

You won't be able to get a CNA job without a CA CNA certificate, but possibly you could get an NA job. That is, if the job is available. At close to minimum wage, it would not be worthwhile. Best to take the time to study for NCLEX. And do not be expecting work to be plentiful. For years now, experienced nurses and new grads have been having a hard time getting work in CA.
