California BRN Processing Times Poll

Secondlifen2b, our situations sound extremely similar...how frustrating this process has been!

1) license by exam

2) filed - April 15 (sent everything in mid-January)

3) 15 weeks

4) Paper

5) out-of-state school

6) non-cali resident

7) Along with the processing timeframe constantly changing (it started at 10-12 weeks when I applied and has since been changed to 16-18 weeks and then disappeared altogether!), I was told about a month ago that my fingerprint cards were processing but my application would be processed in a few more weeks...called this week and was told there are no records of my fingerprint cards in the system and that it would be at least 4-6 weeks until my application was processed.

8) Numerous calls to CA BRN, complaint with the DCA (quickly got an email response from them but haven't heard anything from the BRN), emergency LiveScan since my fingerprint cards were lost

9) Yes - I'm supposed to start working at the end of August but if I am unable to take my NCLEX by mid-August, I will not be able to work until November

Hey guys....so my situation is only slightly different, but relatively the same.

1) license by exam

2) April 22, did livescan April 7, graduated May 18

3) 14 weeks

4) Paper

5) Graduated in California from Kaplan College San Diego

6) California resident

7) Called in June and they said they hadn't processed my background, faxed in the confirmation, 2 days later they manually verified and passed my background for me

8) I have faxed our school roster twice along with sent it certified mail twice almost 8 weeks ago, both letters were signed and accepted by a representative of the BRN

9) I was offered two positions, both of which got rescinded due to not being licensed in time. I now have an interview next week for a new grad program beginning October

Hi secondlifen2b, I just wanted to say that I understand how difficult it is. I submitted my app March 1st (CA resident) and it took them about 17 weeks to get back to me.They also told me that I was missing documents even though I uploaded them as a PDF!! I had to later send in my app via mail and fax to be double sure. Honestly I called them everyday. One of the days the person helping me on the phone was able to flag my application and write a note in about my circumstances. I'd honestly say keep calling them daily- maybe someone will be able to help you out-- at 16-17 weeks I was told to wait a few more weeks but was adament and explained my situation about potentially getting into residencies! At about 18 weeks I FINALLY got my ATT! I wish the best for you and hope things work out soon. I;d be nice if CA BRN can hire more people to work at their office. My professors have told me that only a handful ~5 people work there :/ they are WAY TOO SLOW

There is only a handful of them as you stated yourself. Not their fault, but the state needs to hire a much larger staff force.

So it seems that more than a few of us have applied to California for a license either by exam or endorsement. Let's share our 2016 processing experiences here:
1) endorsement?
2) received on 6/17
3) 6 weeks
4) paper with hard card fingerprints
6) KS
7) none so far
9) No job or contract, just a personal deadline of the first of the year.

2) App received by BRN April 9, breeze site states April 20, BRN rep said my date is April 4?

7) Have a friend that applied AFTER she graduated in early June and received her ATT last week!

8) I've called twice over the past 14 weeks to get updates, the last was last week and they told me about my Application date being 11 days earlier than the site states. The lady told me that the BRN processing dates are also accurate, which is mind boggling given my friend applying mid-June and already received her ATT.

9) I accepted a new grad position that starts late September.

Hmmmm....might your friend be a veteran, rameningitis? If not, that's odd. Everything I keep getting told is that they're (the BRN) is going in order. So then which is it? They're going in order or they're making exceptions?

3. 12 weeks since I applied

4. Electronic application online

5. Graduated from Saddleback College 05/10/16

6. California resident

7. No hiccups that I know of since I've never been able to get through on the phone

8. I've tried calling and sent emails but have never received a response; I filed a complaint with the DCA, they responded quickly and apparently forwarded my complaint to the CA BRN and that's the last I've heard

9. My acceptance into a BSN program that starts 8/26 will likely be rescinded if I don't have my license or at least a tag date soon

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us [emoji4]

Wow, I never realized that the pain that out of state nurses are experiencing is the same as new grade waiting to test. As hard as it can be to get a job in CA (Bay Area specifically) I cant imagine having to wait this long just to test. I'm sorry guys. I'm from San Jose but moved to KS 11 years ago getting my RN along the way, my ATT came quickly but my state is super small in population, we have actually had nurses from San Jose move to our local hospital to get their 1 year experience before going back home to practice. I know my floor isn't hiring people like this anymore, but some still do.

6) Your home state of residency: Resident of Colorado but will be moving to CA Aug 8^th

7) Hiccups with the BRN you've experienced? The huge wait time, poor communication, lack of assistance, lack of concern.

8) Remedies you've tried to get your application processed. Many calls to the BRN (only 3 answered), 2 emails (none answered), 1 fax (not answered). Formal complaint filed with DCA (was told they would forward it to the BRN, never heard anything back from BRN). Email complaint sent to governor Brown's office (was told they would forward complaint to DCA, never heard anything back from the DCA about forwarded complaint).

9) Do you have a job/contract with a dead line that you need this license for? Yes I have a pending position at a hospital.
