California Boards

Published

Hello, I have been a RN in the state of Michigan for five years and I am thinking of relocating to either California. Does anyone know where I can find information if I need to retake the boards in either state? I've been on vacation to both places and I much prefer it over the long winters here in MI. Does anyone know what the job market is like in San Francisco or Oahu? Thank you.

Both job markets are very tight....as you would imagine being such popular destination places. The cost of living is exorbitant. I know San Fran is giring moslty BSN only.

A Google search will let you know how to apply for licensure by endorsement....are you a US graduate?

Hi, yes I am a US graduate and I have a BSN. Is there a map where I can see which states require me to retake the boards if I already have a license from MI? Thank you.

There are none if you maintain an active nursing license subsequent to passing the NCLEX. My sister passed the NCLEX in the 90's and never had to retake the exam when endorsing.

Once you pass NCLEX and maintain an active nursing license in any state, you'll never need to retake it. You simply apply for nursing licensure by endorsement through the board of nursing in the state where you wish to become licensed as an RN.

For best results you'll want to apply and obtain licensure several months before relocating. Some state boards of nursing, such as the California BRN, are notoriously slow and inefficient when processing endorsement applications.
