Hi, Everyone. I have this example question-drug calculation. Could someone shed some light on it-the steps of working it out.
You are required to give 300 micrograms.
The ampoule contains 1: 5000 in 5mls.
How much are you going to give?
The answer I got was 0.3 ml.
I first converted 300 micrograms to grams.
1: 5000 = 1gram in 1000mls so the answer is 5 grams.
300 divided by 1000 = 0.3
0.3 times 5 = 1.5
1.5 divided by 5=0.3
Is this correct-I need some guidence.
hi,beetle!
you are required to give 300 micrograms. the ampoule contains 1:5000 solution in five mls. how much are you going to give?
i may be a little rusty on this, but i do believe that the 1:5000 ratio means that 5 ml of solution contains 1 mg of drug (or there is 1 gram of solid in 5 liters of liquid), not 1 gram per 5ml. someone please correct me if i am wrong about this. therefore:
you are asked to give 20 grams iv. you have a bottle of 5%. what volume are you going to infuse?
missing information here, so i can't complete the problem for you. your bottle of medication is how much of a 5% of what? more information is needed. as it stands, it's too vague.

A angel prehaps. I already know 1: 5000 is 1 gram in 5000 mls. Do I need to convert the 300 to grams?
