Anyone planning on applying to the Spring 2011, CSUSM, accelerated ABSN program? Just wondering if there is anyone else out there:)

Hi Kurt ,

Send me a pm and I'll send you ***'s contact info. He is great , but he would take care of students with last name ranging between A-K. And there is ***** who takes care of L -Z. They will guide you step by step. And answer all the questions and are very prompt.

It's great because the advisors are usually swapmed and students are applying in multiple schools. Getting answers is a task in itself. ***s is very helpful.

Woops, sorry the mssg was for Kurlaub.

I have ***** at CSUSM and she is so great and so helpful. She always gets back to me in a few hours of an email. I am not sure what kind of nursing i want to do. I am enjoying volunteering in the ED right now, but i am also interested in infertility treatments.

I heard National has very high NCLEX scores. Where did you hear that they didn't? I have heard only good things about National, but I would be interested in what other people have heard. CSUSM is my first choice of schools, I will apply to National as a back up if i don't get into the 2011 cohort at CSUSM.

Kurt W and Goodthoughts, what advisors do you both have? Do you have their contact information? I was unable to make this last information session at CSSM but I am hoping to catch the next one.

I applied to Azusa and I am going to apply to SDSU. National doesn't have the best NCLEX passing rates, so I am thinking twice about them. I wish there were more options for Second Degree nursing programs. What type or nursing does everyone want to do?

Check out the following link for contact information for CSUSM ABSN:

As for what type of nursing I want to do, I am hoping to segue straight into the ICU and get a year there, then on to more school for a Master's in anesthesia. That is the plan, anyhow ;)

Thanks all!! I am going to contact CSSM and get started.

I am in the same boat, not really sure what type of nursing I want to do. I am really interested in delivery and maybe even midwifery. But then Psych sounds good too. I volunteer at Sharp and one of the nurses in my unit started out in Psych and loved it!

As for the passing rates of colleges in CA, check out the Board of Registered Nursing @ http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml

National has a pass rate of 79% C+ average isn't all that bad, but I would feel more comfortable going to a school with a much higher pass rate. PL Nazarene has 100% but then again, they don't have a lot of students either. either way, we don't have a lot of schools to choose from in SD.

Anyone thought of going North? or to Nevada or Arizona for nursing schools? I know the Un of So. Nevada has a program with no wait lists, but I don't know I feel about living in Nevada.

I am going to apply to CSUSM for the spring. But I also have applications in for Azusa, National, and San Diego State's new ABSN program. They all seem very competitive.

It seems like there are so many people trying to get into school right now. I hopeI get in somewhere.

Hello!! I just went to the info session last Friday and am hoping to apply for the 2011 cohort. I live in Murrieta so I want to attend the Temecula campus. I still need O Chem and Micro too...and I need to take the TEAS. There is Chem 105 in the summer at SM but it is a 5 week course and I work full time and travel with work (and have 2 young kids as well) so I don't know if it is feasable. If I cant do it in summer I will have to take both in fall. Just dont know if Im crazy to try to take both classes while working full time, traveling and taking care of 2 kids... I also had good grades in my 1st bachelor's degree but looked at my transcripts and my grades in the pre core aren't my strongest... I took them all freshman year when I was adapting to college life... oh well.

Anyone worried about loans? I just hope I can take out enough to cover tuition and costs as well as living expenses. If school is going to be $35k alone...Im gonna be in debt big time!! I tried looking up grants and scholarships but didn't find anything worthwhile...any suggestions??

Thanks!!:redbeathe

Can you have courses in progress for the fall for the spring 2011 cohort? I have not been to an info session since 2008 right after they started the program. So much has changed since I went to the info session.

I am having trouble signing up for the A&P2 class. Only one class is being offered at MSJC this summer so I was hoping to take it in the fall. I was not sure I would be eligible with a class in progress.

I think you can take 2 classes with 2 kids. You can do it; you just might be a little low on sleep. Think of it as practice for the nursing program!

Hi there! Yes, you can have classes IP during fall and still get into the cohort in 2011. They will take IP, as long as the courses get finished on time. I am actually taking the A&P2 class right now at MSJC with Slepski. He is a great A&P teacher and he is teaching this summer. I am taking Micro in the summer there and then I will be finished and ready to go for January. I think you can take both classes with two kids and working. I have two (17 months and 3) and I work too. I am taking A&P2, Dev. Psy., and Organic Chem. this semester! I have no life, but it is do-able:)

Does anyone know when they will be notifying those who will get accepted for Fall 2010? It'd be great to know in advance just in case we need to figure out financial aid stuff!

They only accept students in the Spring. So the next cohort would be Jan 2011.
