Cal State San Marcos ABSN summer 2018

Published

Hi Everyone! I just applied to CSUSM for the summer 2018 semester! Who else has applied?

I know I agree! Other potential cohorts had way more activity by this time! Haha I'm going to do what others did and try and call my advisor today to see how competitive she feels my application is. Other people mentioned their advisor gave them some info on what the average points were looking like so far. That will help hold me over cause this wait is a killer hahah

I know right? And I just talked to the admissions and they said acceptance for ABSN summer 2018 should be out by end of January/beginning of Feb!! I am beyond excited!

I know it sounds silly, but this program is my first choice so if they send it out by January I don't really need to apply to other programs! But if they don't by start of February, I'll have to go through the pain of applying to backup programs for the Fall (ADN ones) :( Hopefully they don't get too busy with the start of the spring cohort!! So excited too! :)

OMG same here! This is my first choice as well since it's an accelerated programs. TBH, I do not really want to go to traditional BSN programs since they're usually ~3 years. Other schools apps are due around March so if I get accepted, I am not applying to other places as well. Do you live around Temecula?

I personally decided against a traditional BSN, I would just do ADN and a bridge. I would hate to spend the crazy amount of money to be done in around the same time! But definitely know that a BSN is where everything is headed. For ADN programs, many are due mid February so the two dates are cutting it so close to eachother! :( I live in Oceanside, so would be making the commute. Hopefully carpooling!! Hahah (if I get in!)

Ohhhh yeah, that's definitely a smart idea too! and oh no.. maybe you should apply just in case! I know that CSUSM ABSN is through extended learning so the tuition is a lot higher than regular CSU BSN programs... I heard it's around ~45,000K for the whole program. & Lucky you! I live all the way in Fullerton (in Orange County) so I definitely have to move near Temecula if I get accepted. :(

For Summer 2017, we started getting acceptances in late January :) Back when I had applied, an advisor had told me anyone above 35 points is automatically in, the rest just depends on the applicant pool. Cohorts at Temecula are a little less competitive than San Marcos. Be sure to check your portals, you will see the application status update there first

For anyone who lives a ways away: A ton of my cohort commutes from San Diego up to Temecula and then a few commute from riverside/orange county/corona areas so it is definitely possible to commute. Lectures all take place the same day, and then clinicals are spaced out between San diego county and Riverside county. So if you move to Temecula, you'll definitely have lecture days nearby, but you could get placed in a clinical rotation anywhere from san diego to riverside.

Good luck everyone...so excited for you all :)

@picklerick Thank you so much for your help! I don't think I meet 35 points :( Maybe around 32-33, sigh. & Ohhh, thank you for the info on commuting! Temecula is almost 100 miles away from my house so commuting might be really hard, even if it's just once a week. :(

If you don't mind me asking, how do you like the program so far? :) You're half way done!

32-33 is still really high! I would feel confident with those points :) Especially with the Temecula campus. 100 miles?! Oh wow! Definitely worth it to move then, that's far!

I am really enjoying it! The professors have been amazing, second semester is when you start actual clinical rotations and I have to say, my professor kept us all sane during that. There are a lot of moments when you question whether you have what it takes...and trust me, you do! It has been nice to have awesome professors who are also reassuring throughout the process. I'm really glad I chose this program compared to the 12-16 month programs because there is a LOT of information and it's very time consuming, but I feel like I am really learning due to it being a little bit longer :)

There have been some bumps along the way, sometimes things are a little last minute and it can be tough to get in touch with school of nursing, but I think you find that with any school. No one's perfect but I am very happy here!

I received my updated evaluation the end of last week. 28 points which is around the average acceptance of previous summer 2018 cohort. Hopefully its enough to get in!

@picklerick THANK YOU for all the info! It's great to hear that you like the program so far. I tried looking for the program's reviews, but couldn't really find much info about it. Yeah, I didn't even apply to short programs because I actually want to learn, instead of just rushing through all that info.

One more question: you said that clinical rotations can extend all the way from Riverside to San Diego county?! Damn... that kind of sucks because Riverside is almost 50 miles from temecula and SD is like ~60 miles.. That's a lot of driving :( Do clinical rotations change each semester? About how many times a week do we go? Thank you so much for your help! My only concern is living situation so.. :(

@nursegoals90 Nice! I'm still waiting for my updated evaluation. Yeah, it seems like summer cohorts are the least competitive. Good luck! Acceptances should be coming out in a few weeks :o
