I was just wondering does CA state prision still have OT for RNs? I known in the past, all RNs used to do many OT like crazy, due to the budget cut, do they still have that many OT nowadys? thanks

I hope not! I just signed up to hear the response from others.

It really depends on the prison. OT in CDCR is like a roller coaster, goes up and down and what determines the variation is staffing, budget, call offs, sick and vacation time that staff use, etc.

It seems it just follows their hiring sprees. The facility that I just completed a gig at had virtually unlimited amounts of overtime for both State employees and registry staff/agency RN's and LVN's. Then they hired a bunch of people and the OT began to slack off very quickly. I would have to say it follows their attrition rates, then they await the authorization to hire, and the amount of OT goes up and down.

The prison that I work at has LOTS of OT for nurses but only in the hospital areas, occasionally on the line. The prisons that I've talked to seem to have enough OT. My friend who works at another prison does 2 or more days a week OT.

I just recently hired at Stockton State Prison through agency, and I've talk to lot of RN'S who work double, and they also mentioned they can give their availability days to the Scheduler when they would like to be called or mandated to work double shift.
it's crazy I've heard one RN even has check of 11k for 1 month. lolz.. figures!

How is it like to work at the new stockton prison?
I've read online that it was plagued w scabies due to towel/soap shortage. Also has gloves/catheter/supply shortage. Is this true and still an issue? What issues r u currently facing now?
