CA lvn moving to another state! What should I do!?

Published

I'm about to get my lvn and i reside in california, if i move to another state how would i go about getting my license there? I heard that cali license is good in any other state without any further education but i wanted to know for sure, i contacted the board of nursing and they have yet to respond. Could someone that knows tell me? Also, i may get married soon and is it easy to change my name on my license as well? Thank you sooo much!

If you move to another state, you would have to contact the board of nursing in that state to find out what their requirements to obtain licensure in their state. With some states you can obtain an endorsement, which is just filling out an endorsement application and mailing that with a fee to the Board of Nursing for that state.

If you get married, again, you would have to contact the board of nursing for the state you are living in to get a name change application. Hope this helps. Congrats and good luck.

Whoever you spoke to meant, I'm sure, that your LVN education will meet the licensure requirements of any other US state, not that your CA license is good in any other state (because it isn't).

As already noted, check the BON website for whatever state you're moving to, and look for the section on LPN licensure by endorsement (that's for people who are already licensed in another state) or by examination (if you will not already have a CA license). All the info and forms you need should be there. There is a link at the bottom of each page here to links for all the US state BONs.

Best wishes!
