CA BRN sending me to go back school.

World Registration

Published

Okay.. I am a foreign graduate and had my BSN in our country last 2009. I came here in US last september 2011 (here in CA to be exact). And then January 2012 I start to apply for NCLEX RN and after 6 months of processing all the papers I got denied of course due to concurrency issues (OR,DR cases).

The letter from BRN saying that

.."if you wish to become licensed registered nurse in California, you will have to complete an approved RN program. A suggestion would be to find a program in your area and speak to the Nursing Director. It will be the decision of the Nursing director to determine if you can be given any credits of your previous education and what additional course work you would be required to complete."

So my question is, I do understand that I'm going back to school. My other classmates were told to enroll their OB and OR cases I mean their MedSurg and Maternal Child Nursing subject "ONLY" to seat for nclex RN. But me I have to go back to school and enrol in a RN program itself.

Now I'm a LVN and planning to go back to school but not really now. For now I'm just inquiring and searching here what to do. And I have no idea what will happen to me. Is it possible for me to enrol RN program now that I'm LVN and I have BSN in our country before?

Which school here in CA whether So cal or north cal or central california will offer me a best and justify program for my issues to BRN.

Honestly I dont want to take all the subjects in RN program. Is there a school that can accept my other subjects from what I have in BSN and now I am LVN?

Hope guys you understand what trying to say, thank you.

No my analyst told me to study and finished MSN to be eligible for licensure

I studied and became Lvn here in CA

That's why I wanted to appeal it coz it said on their regulations that if you're Lvn the board shall not require more than 30units to be eligible for licensure.

And obviously my Philippines Bsn are more than these requirements

I was meeting with two of my recent US educated nursing friends and we got to talking about your particular case. Both of them are new grads and luckily employed in some of the better known hospitals in CA.

This is THEIR thoughts on the matter: they both think that the reason your analyst told you that you needed to enroll and pass the MSN is that you're already an RN in another state. As such, you will be held to the highest license, therefore, your LVN license from CA has no influence into gaining further towards the endorsement process for an RN license you already are in possession of.

The reason the analyst told you need to finish an MSN nursing program is that you already used your BSN degree towards the RN license. You cannot get another BSN for a nursing license you already have.

You're no longer trying to get the initial license in CA to become an RN, you are an RN just in a different state. Coming back into CA, you will be required to submit all the same documentations as trying to get the ATT, the same goes for anyone wanting to endorse their out of state license.

They feel that the early departure date and your graduation date does pose enough of a problem to cause a possible denial as just looking at the time difference is more than two weeks when the CA BON evaluator looks at it as face value. I was gathering some of the above information from your other separate posting thread.

Please don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger.

I got denied too but it was specifically stated on my letter that only medsurg and OB didn't meet the CA law or whatever you call it. I feel bad for u if your evaluator is asking you to complete an entire BSN program. :(

If I may ask, how long did they give you to complete your deficiency? My application will be voided if i dont complete my deficiency within a time period of 3yrs.

hi, have you taken the nclex-pn already? i have some questions regarding on how to process for nclex-pn,got confused with thier requirements, im also a graduate of a nurse in the philippines.

I also got denied and received a letter stating i have to go back to school but it didn't give me any specific subjects to complete. From what i got in the letter, It all depends on the school. So It could just be 1 or a few subjects.

Last August 23, I sent my application by endorsement to CA BON... 19 days after, I received a letter from my analyst asking me the following.. a.) Copy of Clinical Cases and b.) Related Learning Experience Clinical Logbook.. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of this anymore, my school doesn't have a copy of my cases anymore.. I don't know what to do

To be very honest, due to the recent two postings by the CA BRN of several Filipinos submitting falsified documents, you're most likely out of luck if you can not provide the requested documents.

The proof of the burden is upon yourself and that goes for each and every individual, be it applying for the exam or by endorsement. This is true whether one went to school in the US or outside.

You can try to hoop and holler at the CA BRN, but at the end of the day, they will need to see verifiable proof.

One other option is to file for an appeal (although they haven't truly denied you yet), but you better have some very strong arguments on other than why you don't have copies or more importantly, why your school doesn't have the case copies anymore. I think that will only raise their suspicions and flatly reject your arguments.

No verifiable proof = no endorsement = no CA license.

I was able to talk to my analyst.. she was very nice to me.. She just want me to give one of the things she asked.. if I cannot provide her any of the two.. it will be considered abandoned...

Kabayan, you're lucky to have spoken to your analyst, most can't even get passed the busy phone lines, lol. But I would have asked to get this in writing (via e-mail), I mean, I don't know if you call back and ask for that in writing now if that will offend your analyst versus doing this by e-mail.

The reason being for the written part is that let's say somehow you're able to provide one of the two of the requested documents, but say either that analyst is not there for some reason (on vacation, transferred to another dept., resigned, fired, reassigned a different set of names or whatever). Guess what? You now going to be dealing with a new analyst who may or may not feel the same way as the previous analyst.

Yes, that's the bad part if you don't get either set of documents, the application will be abandoned. If later you do get the required documents, then, you have to start from square 1 with new non refundable fees, do the whole thing as if applying for the first time.

But really, if you're a post-2004 PH grad, then, there's a pretty good chance that your transcripts will not pass the concurrency rules anyways.

I didn't wait too long, she even asked me my phone number so that she can call me back, after 10 minutes, she called me back and explained to me every questions I have asked.

I was wondering if anyone with the same response from the BRN has any info about this matter? I see more schools are slowly opening slots for MS and OB but i am just clueless. "Once you have completed an approved program, you will need to reapply to the board" Does this mean they have abandoned my application and that i would have to reapply? -___- so lost
