Bursitis (knees)....best shoes????

Nurses Uniform/Gear

I am 5 months into the OR and my knees are killing me ~ went to the dr. and was diagnosed with bursitis. I'm sure my cheap shoes are contributing to the problem, but I don't want to invest a lot of money without some kind of guarantee. :) Anyone out there recommend a brand? I have big feet (women's size 11 or 11 1/2, wide width). Thank you so much.

Wow, trying to take care of bursitis with a shoe is like trying to take care of a fracture with a band aide. Nonetheless, I can understand your concern, you want to work and solve the symptom the best way you can.

I found that a true running shoe is very adequate for a long days work, standing. Not a fashion shoe.

Nike has the "Bowerman" series of shoe that is not just fashionable, but made for runners. Forget the "air" this and "air" that. Get the cheapest "Bowerman" series shoe that is comfortable for you. I use the "Pegasus." They are great but not recommended for CNA, they are mesh and not good in the shower. While I was in nursing school, they demanded all white shoes. "K-Swiss," has light shoes that are comfortable, but they don't last as long as the running shoes. Get the shoe with your hands and make sure they are easy to fold or flex at the sole. If not, they will tire you out. I am not counting out other brands, but I am telling you only what I know. Good luck.

Thanks neutrophil. I'm going to see about the Pegasus series; perhaps wear them at home for a couple days to make sure. I've also heard good things about the Nike Shox.

Yeah, I'm just doing what I can with the bursitis....working 8-10 hours/day with inflamed knees is killer. I have bad genes in that regard but it was only after starting in the OR that I had real problems. Can't exactly ice and rest during work. :p

I'll let ya know how I come out. And thanks again for the response.

I've still had my Zcoils...over a year... still doing fine...

MBTs are the best!

Well I ended up getting some Asics gel shoes. My size and width made some of the other brands an impossibility. I have to say they have made a world of difference in my workday. Of course I still have knee pain, but it's much more bearable now. My feet don't hurt at all, and there was no breaking-in period.

The funny thing is that I bought a size larger than I have been buying; I'm not sure how that happened, but after getting sized and trying on several different pairs, I ended up a full size bigger. I felt so stupid; here I was wearing shoes that were too small! How could that be????? :p

I will never ever ever ever again compromise my footwear. Lesson learned!
