waitingforthedream 231 Posts Feb 22, 2009 I know some grads from last May that are still not working. Kinda rough out there. I may be moving on out of Jersey If I don't get hired soon. By the way, I started school at 40.
PUMPKIN1975 61 Posts Mar 11, 2009 Well after 3 weeks I finally got a call back about the denial I got due to not having BIO 120/121 which I fulfilled in high school Biology with a lab. They had my high school transcript, but didn't think I had Biology because it was abbreviated on my transcript as "BSCE". So they said I had to have my high school send them a letter confirming the name and course description. I will be applying again for Spring 2010 and will have all prereqs done this time, so I am hoping to get in. I went to Our Lady of Lourdes yesterday and they said the soonest I could start is Spring 2011 and I really can't wait that long.
waitingforthedream 231 Posts Mar 11, 2009 OMG, I would be so upset that I did not get a seat because of some stupid thing like that. You mean to tell me that they could not confirm that with the school?? Or at the least, let you know in a more timely fashion so you could have followed up with it sooner so you could have had a seat??? Unbelievable.
PUMPKIN1975 61 Posts Mar 11, 2009 I know. They DID say I would not have gotten in though. I guess because I don't have everything done (I am taking A&P II and Micro this semester, and then I am done prereqs). Still very frustrating, though.
waitingforthedream 231 Posts Mar 11, 2009 Hang in there. I have found through my recent job searching that BCC students are in high demand because of the reputation that the nursing program has. People might say otherwise, but I know because this is what I am hearing from the nursing department heads who are interviewing me. They respect this program and have a very good pass rate on NCLEX. So do what you need to do to get in and it will pay off in the end!!!:wink2:
PUMPKIN1975 61 Posts Mar 11, 2009 Thanks! BCC is my only option anyway at this point so I am just going to keep applying until I get in :)

staci2011 10 Posts Mar 16, 2009 Is there a cut-off as to when your high school biology class wouldn't be acceptable? For instance... I had high school bio in 1988, will they be OK with that when I apply. I've already taken A & P I and Chem and I'll take micro and A & P 2 in the summer but now I'm scared that I'll apply and they'll laugh at the ol' lady who wants to get into nursing school! ;-)I will not be happy if they need me to retake general bio... I work in a veterinary lab for crying out loud!
waitingforthedream 231 Posts Mar 16, 2009 The only cutoff is with the pre-rep classes, none with chem and bio. If you took it in highschool, that is good enough. But to make sure, I would ask them NOW, you don't want to wait until you are sending in your intent to enroll form!
heatherab29 39 Posts Apr 5, 2009 I am having the same issues with childcare I have 2 older boys 14 and 10 that I do not have to worry about. Then I have a 5 yr old daughter and it stinks because I will be home most of the day just not in the morning to put her on the bus. This is the first time I applied and I was accepted I will figure something out. It is too good of an oppurtunity to pass up.
heatherab29 39 Posts Apr 5, 2009 I received a letter at first saying I was not accepted because they did not have my high school transcript, which was not my fault. They received it when I started at BCC. On the bottom of the letter it said if I fix the problem they will reconsider. I did fix it and a month later I received a letter saying I had been accepted. I spoke with OLOL and several months ago they were taking applications for fall 2011.
JSteiner 1 Post Sep 7, 2011 I am a student at BCC now and want to get into the nursing program. I have some classes done like all the english, soc101,phil101,and I'm working on anatomy, psy, and lab. I'm horrible at math, I'm in mth 075 which doesnt count towards your credits. However I hold a 4.0 GPA. My question is, I understand they want all the pre req's done first, but do I have a better chance at getting in because of my strong GPA? Also how hard is the math in nursing? Because I'm the worst at math but smart in everything else. I heard the math could make or break you. :-(. This is soo stressful. And to think, I want to go for my master's...
