This is a thread for those who have been accepted to Bunker Hill Community College. Our journey finally begins December 5th!
I think any experience will be helpful. I've worked at Lahey (which I believe might be one of our clinical sites) for almost 7 years as a medical assistant. I worked in primary care for 5 and have been in Plastic Surgery for the past 2 years! I've learned a lot. It will come in hand for clinicals
Skay-Wow, that's really interesting! Sounds a lot like Public Health Nursing which I've always been interested in. It's nice that you're a CNA even though you haven't worked as one yet your training will still be a big help. I've heard during our first clinical they have us do a lot of CNA stuff, bed baths, changing beds, etc.
Very cool! We should have a good group! I was originally heading down the PA route when I first went to school then found Health Education and thought I'd end up in Public Health or Higher Ed.
I'm very interested in midwifery/peds/women's health and holistic nursing. I'm a yoga instructor and super crunchy earthy...in a herbalism, aromatherapy, deep breathing sort of way.
I have a huge passion for substance abuse and HIV/AIDS though too. So I really have no idea where I'll end up!
I can't wait to meet everyone! We will have to add our allnurses names on our name tags lol
Hi Skay226, I mentioned that in our acceptance letters at the bottom of the page it says we must bring a immunization history and it says you can find the form on the bhcc website. I printed it out and brought it to my doctor but for some reason I feel they're going to give us something different to get filled out once we get to orientation lol

No I don't work in MH. I'm a health educator for a health center so I work with Adult Med, Peds, MH, and with a grant focused on Hepatitis C, HIV, STI reduction. Many patients that come to see me are for diabetes education and general wellness (physical activity, diet, smoking cessation). A lot of it is focusing on behavior change and readiness! I say "counsel-y" because it is very clinical in nature due to the topics and the fact that they are referred from their PCPs but it is warmer and there is more space/time for me to answer their questions and respond to their concerns than in a medical appointment.
