Has anyone received an acceptance letter yet from the University of South Alabama for the Accelerated BSN program? I applied for spring 2017 and I haven't heard back from the school yet.
I wouldn't do a study group. All the information you are going to need will be presented in class. Just come to class your first day prepared to learn. It really is accelerated so just get in that mindset. And take each day one at a time. But I know a prior study group for the program would have probably just confused me the first day.
I just wanted to meet people that were going to be in my class and not necessarily study before the program began. It's always helpful going into a program already knowing your class mates. The woman who interviewed me encourage me to reach out to future class mates. She said that she was impressed with the previous class as they created a Facebook page before they started the program. I would love to do that for our class.
The program is tough. No doubt about it. you literally need to be ready to learn everyday because the amount of material you are going to learn in a short amount of time is tremendous. I would say the best thing to do would be to just go ahead and prepare yourself to live, eat, and breathe nursing school. Find time to relax of course, but your main priority should be school. The first day you're going to probably be overwhelmed, but just take one day at a time and you'll get through it in no time. The first 5 weeks are really intense butnits doable. Trust me we all made it through (but don't be afraid to have an emotional breakdown over pharm). There's not a whole lot to prepare you for except what I mentioned as in be ready to learn everyday. Get sleep no matter how much you feel like you don't need it. My roommate and I went to bed every night by 10 in the first 5 weeks and we still managed to pull A's and B's on assignments and tests. This program is not for the laid back unmotivated person. It takes a commitment. Current levels of sleep in our classes right now are small, but we've learned to just countdown our days. Oh and be prepared to get your packet and they hit you with the 1700 POS computer you HAVE to buy for testing purposes. Try and find people from the graduating class who started in Jan 2016 for books. I managed to buy every book I needed for $500 from a prior student. Plus they can sell you old scrubs and white coats.
Wow, thanks for all the info. I will try to find someone for their books. That's a great price! I'm totally ready to have no life next year. I'm 31 with no children so I will be focused 100%. I'm use to taking accelerated courses from my other two degrees so I have an idea of the pace that we will be taught with. That's crazy about the computer! I just bought a new one for nursing school! Oh well. Lol. Thank you so much for all your help! That's very nice of you to share with us. Can I ask you how you found students from the last graduated class?
I looked through all nurses and found some... And I also typed in USA accelerated nursing on Facebook to see if anyone had made posts about it. That's how I found the previous student. They had a time where the old students could sell us their material, but they were still in school when we started. The class before us graduates in December so they won't be on campus anymore. They may still send out some information. Also Brennan who works in the CON made our group FB page for our class. She may make one for y'all as well because she will know who all was accepted. You'll be able to use your personal computer for everything except taking tests. I use the one we had to buy for Softest and ATI.. both of which are programs downloaded already on the computer. But I use my mac for everything else.
