BSN Schools Without Transfer Prerequisites?

Nursing Students General Students

Does anyone know of any BSN programs that are good but do not require prerequisite completion for transfer students? Most nursing programs seem to want prerequisites completion before transferring/applying to their programs. If anyone knows of any schools that admit transfers into the program and allow them to finish the prerequisites there, I would love the advice!

I am finishing up my freshman year of college and was on the pre-med route but recently decided to switch to nursing. I have not taken anatomy, physiology, microbiology, psychology, human development, or most other prerequisite courses because I was on the pre-med track! I have completed a year of inorganic chemistry and calculus for biological sciences. I can try to complete some courses this summer, but it is impossible for me to complete them all over or summer or at my current university. I don't want to waste any time or money so I am trying to transfer into a good program as soon as possible :)

I know University of San Francisco does not require completion of all prerequisites, but I know admission is competitive and I feel like if I don't have them done, there is no way they will accept me.

Thanks for any advice! :)

Basically apply for enrollment as a gen ed student at college of choice> complete required pre reqs for nursing program> get good grades> take nursing program entrance exam> apply to nursing program at your school.

Besides for profit schools, this is your best bet. Get competitive grades; you'll need them to apply.

To clarify, I want to transfer to a university that offers prerequisite courses such as A&P, as my current university does not. When I say transfer without prerequisites, I mean transfer into a university with a BSN program that will allow me to complete the prerequisites there prior to beginning the program. I am stuck because many universities will not allow you to transfer without the prerequisites nor complete them there, so I am looking to find a college with a direct entry nursing program that will let me finish the prerequisite courses as if I am a freshman. I hope that clears things up!

Like I said, Mills and HNU, are in partnership with Samuel Merritt. So you don't need to apply to get into Samuel Merritt. You are GUARANTEED admission if you maintain at least a 3.0 at either Mills or HNU and pass the TEAS (test of essential academic skills).

Samuel Merritt is the actual Nursing program, where you do your clinicals etc, while Mills and HNU is where you take your core nursing science classes.

Thank you so much! That sounds exactly like what I am looking for, with the bonus of not being too far from home. I will definitely look into them and hopefully get in!

You don't become a nursing major until you are accepted into a program. I think that may be where your confusion is. At my school, we were in Health Care support until we were accepted into the program. Some programs call it pre-nursing and offer an associate's degree on that alone. When you call or see these admission advisors that is why they are telling you no. You have to look at their prereqs, complete them, and apply for programs. You can apply to more than one if have the extra classes they may need for prereqs.

The term prereq means it is required before entering the program. Pre-before, Requisite-requirement. You are not going to find a direct entry program. Every school has their own list of prereqs and they are not ever the same. I'm sure there is a for profit private school out there that doesn't require any, but those programs are most of the time are not accredited, so finding a hospital to hire you afterwards is going to be tricky. I would also check to see what classes you can transfer from the school you already attended. They usually do if the school is regionally accredited.

The previous poster stated that at mills A&P was required. So you will need to take that and other classes before going to this other school. Then, when you finish your prereqs at Mills and get accepted to the program at Merritt you will become a nursing major.

Yup np! So all you need to worry about is getting into mills or hnu and then from there just maintain good grades and do well on the teas. Good luck :)

Yup I'm considered a pre-nursing major, but I don't have to apply to get into the nursing program because I'm already guaranteed admission. I think that's what @nursing5275 Was trying to explain. A program that allows you to take all of the nursing pre-reqs, and not have to worry about applying again to actually get into the nursing program

You can transfer to any university you want and take the pre read. However you will still have to apply to their nursing program once you get them done
