I hear ya! I worked in NY for 6 years and at some point I just got stuck. I hated my staff job but I couldn't get another one without a BSN. That was a factor that made me want to travel. I still have no desire to get my BSN. I'm enrolled at Western governors because you can learn at your own pace. It's not traditional classes, which I like, but I literally take one or two classes a year because I'm totally unmotivated. I'm stretching it out for as long as possible.
Is this in regards to a travel position or staff? With staff positions, it is absolutely true. Even if you have a BSN and experience it is difficult to find work. However, I did my first travel assignment in the Bronx and I have an ADN. Hospitals in NY use a ton of travelers/agency. Staff was always battling the union and the hospital when I was there. They claimed that the hospitals were transitioning to all agency workers because they wouldn't have to pay pension that way. Also hadn't gotten raises in forever. My recruiter still tries to get me to go back. They are always posting. Good rate too.

Hey guys...
So I'm going to start traveling for the first time this coming Feb. My recruiter told me that I cannot be placed in New York (City) without a BSN. Bummer! Is this true?
I've been an RN x 25 yrs & already make $40/hr at my regular job. I've never been particularly inspired to get my BSN as my facility pays for experience, not degree. I also have no desire to be in management.
But I may have to rethink this if an ADN is going to present problems with decent traveling positions.
Thoughts? Recommendations for a reputable & affordable online BSN program? Lol.
Thanks!
Amy
