BSN program in Sarasota/Bradenton?

U.S.A. Florida

Hi there everyone, I'm brand new here!!

I was hoping someone would be able to tell me if there are any BSN programs in the Sarasota/Bradenton area?

This fall I'm starting classes at MCC but I was wondering if I'd do better getting a bachelors instead of an associates because I already have a bachelors in another field.....

Go to USF if you've already got a Bachelors. USF has an accelerated BSN program which I just happen to be a part of. Yeah, I know it's kinda far from Sarasota and Bradenton, but there's a girl in my class that lives in Bradenton (and she used to live in Sarasota) and she doesn't have an issue with the long drive. Also, the program's only 4 semesters long which is probably the same length as the ASN program you're about to start.

Is USF in Tampa? That's an hours drive for me so that's not possible especially since when I start I'll have a 6 year old a baby.

Is there anything closer?

Yep, it's in Tampa. They also have a Pinellas program (which they just started last year with a grant they received from somewhere) and the classes are in Largo, and the clinicals are in St. Pete or Dunedin (Bayfront, St. Anthony's, Morton Plant). Call the College of Nursing and inquire about when the next class starts for the Pinellas program. It's still kinda far from where you live, but not quite as far as Tampa. USF is the only school I know of anywhere near you that offers a BSN.

Hey Oceansummer,

Where in Sarasota/Bradenton are you? You can PM if you want...I live right by MCC in Bradenton. Are you in the nursing program already? I hope to start there in January. I currently work at SMH which I hope to continue.

There are a few nurses that I am working with that are going for their BSN now and they are doing it at St. Petersburg College which offers a 100% online program. The only thing I believe that you have to do is come community projects but I think that is something you can set up.

Hope to hear from you!

Kris

I think the BSN program at SPC is an RN-BSN program, so if you're not already a nurse, you wouldn't be able to get a BSN from there.

Correct.

I think the original poster is looking for an accellerated BSN program to take advantage of the degree they already have. USF in Tampa has one, but I'm not familiar with the Sarasota area.

I know that. I wrote that a couple of nurses (i.e. RNs) are going for their BSN.

I think that on the west coast if you are going straight for the BSN you either need to go to further south (Gulf Coast) or up to Tampa at either USF or University of Tampa.
