Bsn, lvn/lpn, or adn

Hi all!

I need some help with direction! I have a bachelors degree in psychology but want to go back to school for nursing. I'm currently taking my last prerequisite course (physio) and want to start applying to schools. The problem is my GPA is around a 2.8-3.0. Initially, I was going to apply to two entry level masters programs and an accelerated bsn program to see where I got accepted. Almost being finished with my prereqs, I have little hope with getting into a school because of my low GPA. I have worked in a medical office for a little over a year and a wellness center for two years. My question is... should I still apply to a entry level masters or bsn program? Or should I start an lvn-lpn program and work up the totem pole that way?

Other concerns are later down the road, will some hospitals assist an lvn to get their bsn? And money...I'm paying off student loans right now and need to continue to work to live! I know that accelerated and masters programs are very intensive and advise you don't work at all.

Can someone please lead me in the right direction for my situation?

Hi! This is all personal opinion coming up lol. I know of schools who have taken students with the bare minimum for GPA. Some students have gotten lower on the GPA but did well on the entrance exam and were accepted so don't let your low GPA discourage you. I think that you should maybe persue the LPN route for now as you start working after a year of schooling and you can get it done at a CC. I believe that hospitals (depending on where you end up) will be willing to work with you in furthering your education. They want their employees to better themselves. They may reimburse you or pay for your schooling. That's something you would need to discuss with your employer. I think getting your LPNand working as one for a while will definitely help you as you get your RN. You'll be exposed to a lot of stuff that would be taught in a BSN program so it wouldn't be or at least shouldn't be as difficult as it would for someone with no experience. Again, all personal opinion, what works for one person might not work for you! Best of luck with everything and I hope I kind of helped!
