BSN can't find work

Published

I had a job offer with Mercy in Saint Louis, MO back in January. It was my dream job but unfortunately I did not pass my EXIT hesi. So I had to turn it down because I was technically not a graduate until I did so. I have passed the hesi, graduated and passed my nclex. Now I cannot seem to find a job. SSM has sent me rejection emails for all of my applications and I have not heard anything back from Barnes or Mercy since. I put in at least 3 applications a day, and I am starting to just feel hopeless.

willing to go to a different state?

Specializes in Critical Care; Cardiac; Professional Development.

Willing to move?

Willing to apply to positions outside of the hospital?

Those are two keys right there. You don't say where you live, but some areas are far more saturated with new grads than others. Many major cities having a "hiring season" with new grads welcomed into internships only twice a year. In my area they are January and June start dates, with interviews starting anywhere from one to three months beforehand. If a new grad doesn't get into one of those, he/she doesn't get a hospital job.

Cities are harder to find work than rural areas.

A few things to ponder as you look. Best of luck in your search.

I scored a phone interview today for Thursday at Barnes skilled rehab hospital. I'm pretty excited! relocating really isn't a option right now.
