BScN program out of University of Victoria

Published

i am interested in getting my bachelors of science in nursing degree and am currently considering applying to the university of victoria, i'm wondering if any of you have taken their program and any info/experiences ( good/bad) that you could share with me would be appreciated.

i graduated with my nursing diploma back in the 90's, and currently work full time therefore in all likelihood i would be taking this program part time...i think its called "option b" aka distance education. ( 7 years to complete the program)

it's a little unnerving to think of going back for further education, but i'm committed to seeing it through.

my long term goal is to be involved in nursing education...and i know i'll need to complete this degree and then go forward with a master's :imbar ( ...all in good time!)

are there any other bscn programs that i could take on the lower mainland?

thankyou & have a great day!

Most community colleges I think have option 2 entry for RN's.

Check w/ BCIT, Kwantlen, Langara..

Here's UBC's

Ok, I just checked out Langara, and it seems like they only allow RPN's and LPN's in with advanced placement. Maybe you can try and call their admissions office for some advice.

I also checked BCIT, and they let RN's into their program at level 5.

So once your in level 5, you have to do level 6 and level 7 till you graduate with a BTech Nursing (Soon to be BScN). This totals to about 1.5 years if you go through the entire thing.... the sooner the better! I'd just get the Bachelors asap if I were you and go straight for the MScN. You can work the weekends during school.. you probably won't have to practice lab methods for tests (Since it seems you've had extensive knowledge with that type of thing).

Soooo yeah.. if you want prestige go UBC, but if you want to finish quick go BCIT.

I had my interview with BCIT a week or two ago, and I asked them whether or not their grads are going to MSc / PhD programs in canada or in the states, and they said "Yes, we actually have some recent grads doing their MSc's at UBC right now!"

So.. goodluck with your choice in school!

thanks for the info, No Worries!:balloons:

My mother in law is currently taking it online (distance) through UoV. She likes it, its seems easy as heck and she goes at her own pace (as far as # of courses she takes at a time). It consists of participation online through message boards, group work and papers for your grades. Seems pretty darn straight forward too. Hope this helped a bit. Cheers

thanks for your reply bex...i'm just getting all my application criteria in order...i'm still undecided.....maybe it'll come down to a coin toss...lol...have a great day - bye!

Hi, I'm just new to the forum, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents...

I did my BSN (post RN) through UVic, it was great! I was accepted at both UBC and UVic, but chose UVic because the course selection was what i was looking for.

I can't say enough about the instructors and the whole on-line thing, so convenient to do work even at 1 in the morning if i wanted to. I would encourage you to get your application in, I highly recommend it! :)
