BS in Biology vs. BSN?

for entrance to crna schools, which is more favorable - the 4-year nursing degree or the rn associates with a biology bachelors?

my husband is selecting an rn program with the end goal of crna as soon as possible, and is very interested in pursuing the biology instead of the bsn.

advice from anyone who has been there, or knows what crna schools might like? thanks, this is an awesome forum and i appreciate everyone's insight.

hiya atainey! i'm not a crna but i think what your husband should do is look at the preq required for the crna program he's interested in before deciding to do the bs in biology. some schools do require a bsn & require nurses to work at least one year in critical care: either icu, nicu, sicu, &/or ed/er.

Hey Atainey!

Hey, I'm up here in SLC with the same plan of becoming an CRNA. So far I have recieved my RN and will be finishing my BSN this year. I have been working in the ICU arena for over a year now. (I work up at the University Hospital, I would highly recommend that when he gets his RN to try to get into the ICU as soon as possible, especially at a bigger teaching hospital like the U.)

Well, anyway, its cool to run into a fellow Utahn on this site. Feel free to ask a lot of questions. Oh, by the way, I think that, just according to the schools that I've researched, a Biology BS wouldn't give much of an advantage if any. Plus, there are a lot of accelerated RN to BSN programs out there. Anyway, talk to ya later.

Go back into the old threads this topic has been discussed before. Bottom line-----BSN is acceptable for any CRNA program but BS may not be - you may be limiting your options about where to attend CRNA program. :)
