Broward College VS. Univ of Miami Accelerated Nursing Program

Hi Everyone after reading alot of the forums and post here on allnurses.com I am well informed....thank you all....I put in my application for BC North campus Nursing on Dec 10. and still I don't have points posted. I also applied to UM accelerated Nursing program and just received an acceptance letter yesterday. I already have a BS in Finance and dreamed of being a Doctor since I was a child. Long story short I live by North campus of BC and have heard awful things of UM Nursing program. Although UM Accelerated Option is only 12 months beginning in May and gives a BSN, it has a tremendous cost attachment, not to mention a great long distance drive. I want to make sure I choose a program that better prepares me for the real world of nursing. Please if anyone has any information. Please share. Thanks alot!

Yes they are accredited, just through CCNE and not NLNAC.

nlnac vs. ccne accreditation.

now i understand accreditation of nursing schools. i thank goodness that this site - allnurses.com exist so much information and so many people willing to share and help each other. thanks once again

A BSN and an ASN RN in the real world is a $0.50/cent difference AFTER a year of working at the same facility (well at least mine anyway). Base pay is exactly the same, and you get exactly the SAME amount of training, classes you attend (like new nurse orientation etc).......... NO-ONE praises your for going to any certain school-- like if someone says "oh I went to barry for nursing school" or "oh I went to MDC".... no one cares they just say "oh cool I went there," or "oh that's neat, I went to blah blah"..... that's about it.

Your name tag just says RN on it, it doesn't say BSN on it.

The big difference to me, with a BSN is that you can go on to better things like a master's degree program, or with a little experience under your belt you can be a manager.

Ok I see, have you noticed employers choosing someone who has a BSN over someone having a AA? My plans are to continue my eduction to become a CRNA, so after major research it looks like BSN way is better for me.

My plan is to become either an ARNP or a CNM (midwife) personally. But I plan on doing an RN-BSN bridge later and just get working asap as an RN now (and not have to spend half my life paying back student loans). Good luck with your decision. Sometimes they're not so easy to make.

that's exactly what I am doing! I am soooooo happy that I don't pay any loans and I can afford to pay school out of pocket without breaking the bank at a public university!

not at all!!!!

I've heard stories, and personally a friend of mine who graduated from nova couldn't find a job soon after passing her boards! she ended up taking a job as a secretary and kept applying and applying and 6 months AFTER getting her license she found a job at UM.

ALL my classmates (ASN) found jobs right after passing or even before passing boards.

"an RN is an RN"....... you do the same exact thing as a new nurse even with a BSN..... you don't all of the sudden get a higher position or a managerial position or supervisory position just because you have a BSN.

Hi everyone I have a quick question. I applied to the nursing program at BC and was selected as an alternate student. Does anyone know how likely the chances are of getting in as an alternate?

Hello, I see that this post is very old but I figured that those of you who decided to go through with BC's accelerated nursing program might have some valuable information to give to a prospective student. Any updates on this program?

I JUST started looking into it and have found more information on these threads than on their website. I will try to schedule meeting soon, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask here.

Keep us in mind! BC WILL be offering an accelerated option BSN program for those who wish a career change and who have a Bachelor's degree in another discipline! It will be at Central Campus, hopefully Jan 2016

I did it because of cost and driving time. I would have loved to be at UM. But I've received a very good education at BC. It will just take slightly longer at BC but my job can help pay the bsn or msn now.
