Thanks BumbleBeeRN, My nutrition teacher said her commute was a little further than mine when she attended UM. She had to be on the hwy by 6am to get there by 8am....wow but I will get through it. Thanks for the hint about the naps that will most likely be a very good strategy, to refresh myself b/4 studying.

Univ of Miami Accelerated BSN May 2010
Greetings everyone I am looking to connected to those who are accepted to the University of Miami Accelerated BSN May 2010 or to those who have graduated from University of Miami Nursing Program. I'm currently a massage therapist and Realtor for the last past 8 years. I have a BS in finance and have wanted to be in the healthcare field since I was a little girl. I shadowed 4 different Anesthesiologist so I know my ultimate goal - CRNA. I've now made it to the point that I have obtained all the prerequisites to further my healthcare studies and I'm very excited about my decision to purse Nursing at UM. Everyday I'm getting past the butterflies of this big challenge (12 months, full-time, accelerated program, 55 miles away from home). I will be commuting from the Broward area and carpooling is definely an option. Please share your story. Thanks for any advice, assistant and/or suggestions. Hope to see everyone real soon!

Getting a BSN but have BA in Business ???
Hi, I too have a degree already in a totally seperate field, BS in finance and have taken every science course BC has to offer including org chem I&II, physics I and II, so on and so forth, I applied to BC nursing program ASN and Univ of Miami accelerated nursing program which is a BSN program for 12 months. I just got accepted to the UM program and BC hasn't even looked at my application that I put in on Dec 16, 2009. Although I live 55 miles away from Univ of Miami, I'm going to make that sacrifice after much research and discussion on this website. My end all goal is CRNA. UM is expensive 40K for the 12 month program, fast paced which means no working, really no life and continous studying but I figure that I can make that sacrifice for something I feel holds alot of value in my life. I've had a very colorful life for the last 8 years, partying and worldly traveling its time to devote myself! Being 30+ I now realize that time is not waiting on me any longer . Good luck and many blessing with your decision. Research every angle of each school. Determine your future goals and the time you have to complete your goals and go for your dream....Just my !

One year CRNA program?
Thanks, I know the extra time to learn the healthcare profession will be well worth it. I want to provide the best care I can to my patients so if that means me spending extra years to learn healthcare fully then so be it. I also think its important to be able to work anywhere in the states after schooling, not just selective states. I've been accepted to the Univ of Miami Accelerated Nursing Program - BSN and then onward to become a CRNA.

Broward College VS. Univ of Miami Accelerated Nursing Program
Ok I see, have you noticed employers choosing someone who has a BSN over someone having a AA? My plans are to continue my eduction to become a CRNA, so after major research it looks like BSN way is better for me.

One year CRNA program?
Hi everyone before I made the decision to become a Nurse I did look into the Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Nova Southeastern University, which is a Master degree program of only 27 months. I did alot of research into the field, they are only licensed to practice in 18 states and florida was the first. They compete with the CRNA's for the same position and make the same amount of money as a CRNA. Once again no previous healthcare experience is required before attending the 27 month program! From some Professional Recruiters and other officials in the hospitals A.A's are a threat to the CRNA's for a many of reasons but one which caused me to change over to Nursing. After shadowing 3 Anesthesiologist, for a total of 4 months, one of my mentors said we like A.A's because they don't know as much as a CRNA's who likes to challenge us! Wow what a thought, yea i'll take the long route and gain knowledge and experience. Instead of being as he said later a "Doctor's Puppet."

Broward College VS. Univ of Miami Accelerated Nursing Program
Greetings BumblebeeRN or anyone else, can you tell me the difference of having a BSN in the real world of Nursing compared to not having it? If I play as if cost isn't a factor (yea right) I want to choose the school that provides a good learning environment, one with a great reputation in the field of nursing, one that provides me with a thurl knowledge base and prepares me for the NCLEX. Since I live in Broward I have only heard of GREAT things about the BC North campus program (in which I applied). I would love to hear about the UM program from those who have attended there. I wonder if I could take my clinicals here in Broward if I did attend UM? But yes that drive is a killer 55 minutes one direction not to meantion the gas...but I am willing, able and determinated to make that drive if that is my best choice. Thanks for you help and advice!
