Broward College Nursing Experiences

U.S.A. Florida

Published

So I've read all the horror stories and realize this program is not for the faint of heart, but nothing good ever comes easy. I will hopefully be attending North campus in May and I was wondering if anyone is currently in at North Campus or has graduated from the program. If you could give me a little review I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm super nervous about it but medicine in general has always been my passion. Not looking for people to slam the program but what were your humps and hurdles that you've had to pass through? How was the job market once you were close to graduating? Any topics in Fundamentals I should get ahold of? Also looking for the name of the book that teaches about critical thinking. If you have something that you think might be of use to this future male nurse please let me know.

Definitely taking this advice thank you so much.

Hello, what hospital does central campus goes to?

Memorial system, broward General and Cleveland clinic

Im a May 2016 grad, passed my boards and (hopefully) starting a job in August. Advice for BC? Run. X-) All jokes aside, it's a tough program BUT it has excellent NCLEX passing rates and in the end, you'll know your stuff! Do your research before you invest an incredible amount of time, resources and energy into a 2-4 year program, it's all on the board of nursing! So many of these 'easy' programs have low passing rates! Good luck!

Hi Navistar, are you able to provide an update on your graduation/work so far? I am hoping to start BC in Jan 2017 and should find out by the end of this week. Were you or others able to pass the program without repeating any of the semesters? Have you had trouble finding work as a new grad?

Thanks in advance :)

current BC student at North. As far as hurdles, mainly getting used to the way nursing exams & lectures are structured. You may have 85 power points and the professor might go over 20 of them. You'll be expected to do a massive amount of reading & need to know how to pick out the important information from the fluff. I can read an 800 pg book in a day, and i'm going to tell you it's ALOT of reading.

Love the challenges though. Clinical sites looove BC students and grads. Nursing managers have walked up to my clinical instructors & specifically asked them to send BC grads their way. It's been tough, but I've learned so much. I'm beyond satisfied with my choice of school.

I went to Broward North Campus Nursing program.I was accepted with 16 out of 16 points and a 4.00 GPA!Even tough I studied hard as usually, and I got B in all my classes there...HELLO!!!NOBODY GETS A THERE!!!.Ok my horror story started when I was in my last speciality rotation:PEDS with Germaine and Patrick...Everything I was doing was wrong for them however only 4 people passed her first test and I got the highest score I was failing clinicals...I had to drop and finish in another school and I just passed my NCLEX WITH 75 QUESTIONS!!!So Germaine or Patrick if you someday read this; I just want to say that God will give you what you guys deserve!!!

Horrible school!!!Old way of teaching with PowerPoints 30 years old.Make you read thousands of pages, no practice questions..that's why everyone fails..Impossible

math test at the beginning of semesters, they fail you in clinicals and get your money twice.I didn't even got 1 math question in my Nclex!!!Worst experience ever!!!!I didn't fail any lecture;I got Bs only..However,the hospital is another story..you can't follow the nurse..you get 1 patient and you are tortured from 7 am to 7pm..with stupid stuff you never see again.I need to give my opinion because I feel is very unfair that a student who studies so hard and gets only Bs has to drop because a ***** simply doesn't like you.But is ok I passed my Nclex in 1 hour with 75 questions so let's see who is saying the truth at the end í ½í¸‚í ½í±í ¼í¿»í ¼í¾‰

Graduated from broward college in December passed the NCLEX with 75 questions!!! Thank you broward college fo giving me the tools to pass this exam and be a good nurse. Yes broward college is very challenging as it is with importance to keep their NCLEX passing rates very high. All the negative reviews are from ppl that failed out or quit because they couldn't take the heat. If you are one of those ppl who gives up at hurdles instead of facing them head on you should not go there.

Not necessarily true. Not every person who quit or failed that program was suited to it. There are massive issues within the program and to say otherwise is a disservice to incoming students looking for advice from both sides of the fence.

Some of the things I've seen:

-professors rolling their eyes and acting like asking a question is an inconvenience

-professors blatantly ignoring the fact that students had test banks & cheated throughout the program

-favoritism

-professors not bothering to teach during clinicals.

-disorganized campus days; when you spend half the day sitting around waiting for them to figure out their organization.

-instead of helping you when you ask, you're put down and told "you'll never be a nurse. You'll never pass this class."

-professors handing students mental health brochures because they didn't think they were "emotionally ready" for clinical.

-professors that treat you disrespectfully in front of students, or allow students to treat others disrespectfully (again, favoritism)

Not everyone learns the one way they teach in the program. They have a low retention rate for a reason, and not all of them are due to "students who couldn't take the heat".

I have a very good friend who left BC after a bad experience with a theory professor in Peds..she went to another school, graduated, and is a well respected oncology nurse.

Everyone who went to broward has heard the same stories many times and they still attend the school because they know broward college has a great reputation in hospitals and one of the highest NCLEX passing rates. The experience that you describe was not mine. Yes I had to struggle and deal with difficult events and learn how to study but I decided to give my best effort and I succeeded. I'm so so proud of myself for being a broward college graduate. Everyone's experiences is different and for future student don't let someone else's "horror stories" affect you being a nurse as we know there are plenty of pvt schools out there that will cost you an arm and a leg. I would be embarrassed going to one of those universities and ending up owing tens of thousands of dollars in loans. There is a light at the end of the tunnel don't let anyone come between you and your dream, not a professor not a nurse not students that had a bad experience. The wonder of being in America everyone can have their own opionion.

Broward nursing program is run with a mix of incompetence and malice. The completion rate for this program is a pitiful 28%. How Broward College, or the State of Florida, for that matter allows this to go in is mind boggling. Meanwhile, Palm Beach State has a completion rate of 95.7%. These numbers are available right on the homepage of the respective programs. Yes, Broward has a marginally higher NCLEX passing rate. But what good does that do you after you fail out and have to become an LPN to get back to the RN program. Do yourself a favor and look into MDC or Palm Beach.
