Broward College January 2011

New thread started for all those applying for / accepted to / attending Broward College January 2011. Chime in, let us know how you're doing!

Hello everyone!

To follow up on my wife's post, go to CEUFast.com and you can get all your CEUs (medical error prevention, etc.) done online for $30. For your BLS, check out BLS CPR Initial Classes | American Heart Association Classes. They have three locations (one in Plantation) that offers BLS for $95 including the book, and it's the 4 hour course instead of the 8 that Broward offers (their course is $95 plus the cost of the book anyways).

I'm taking the Micro practical Thursday, and I'll be done for the summer! The Thursday after I'm taking the HESI, then applying as soon as I get my results and grades are up.

How long does everything take? HESI scores, knowing when you've been accepted, etc.? I'm so impatient to start already lol

I dont know how long because the Fall admission was all over the place, it appears as if they were doing rolling admission accepting people out the pool whenever .. and they have already accepted some for Spring sooo i dont know how its gonna go. I would turn it in as soon as possible.

And if you happen to not pass a section , make sure you take it over.

I would have to agree on the HESI - review the math and the vocab in the review book, it's really good. Also if you go to quizlet.com and search HESI review you'll find some great study resources there as well. A & P is def to use your own textbook. I was amazed that there was so much more on grammar, math, etc than on A & P.

I think back in early summer there were some crazy days where nobody knew what was happening and it seemed they were saying that you just had to take the hesi not necessarily pass it. Turns out that this was not the case and now it seems that hesi is really the primary determining factor on acceptance, though I could be wrong.

Also, once you get your grades via email on the hesi, go in there (evolvereach) and look around. They have some good info in there. They break down your results for you and give you pointers and even the things that you got wrong, so that you know your weaknesses.

Good luck everyone!

HCP, I think it's now known as HCP001, is a semester long course you must take before applying to the program. You can also take this at schools other than Broward. The other classes you are talking about that you need once you're accepted but before beginning the program are CAEs like BLS, medical prevention, etcetc, you can do them all online minus the BLS.

And yes, we do need to take the HESI, I e-mailed Broward and was told it still applies.

:):)

Hey I took all the classes at the same time in an online course @ Sheridan Vocational, it was cheaper and everything including the BLS was included :)

Specializes in Critical Care.

Haha, this is true. I should've remembered that - I was following the August thread for a while and it seemed like no one knew what was going on and nothing admissions was doing made any sense..

Wannabenurse, quizlet.com is amazing, thanks for that! The math flash cards are going to help me a ton, that's really the only thing I'm worried about. Are there fill-in-the-blanks for vocab on the HESI? I thought I was hot stuff with my English until I ran into some of those on one of the quizlet tests lol

i dont remember fill in the blanks , but the words are straight out of the study guide book i would also look at some med terms for nurses...

It seems to me that in the HESI Math section there is not much that can be asked in which we wouldn't be able to figure out the answer using the computer calculator- am I wrong here? Can someone who has taken the HESI advise on what to study in the math section where you couldn't solve the problem using a calculator?

I didn't use a calculator. They didn't offer and I never felt the need to ask. There are a LOT of fractions and a LOT of ratio questions. Know your ratios. Also quite a few decimals. Brush up on your metrics and roman numerals. All this was on mine. Most multiple cjoice but a few fill in the blanks on the math

The English section is mult choice and there is a LOT.of it - 150 questions.

Thanks everyone for your help! I enrolled in the program at Sheridan Tech yesterday to finish up the class to be able to apply. It starts the 23rd of August and doesn't end until Sept. 14th, but its an online class that you are able to go at your own pace. They told me if I can complete all the work for the course by Sept 10th then they will print the certificate in time to make the deadline to apply at BC. WHeeewww!! Now I have to take the HESI! I found the study guide at Barnes and Nobles and looked over it yesterday...doesn't seem like it will be to difficult. Just worried about the A & P section. I am really going to have to brush up on that since I took both classes a year ago! I read on the BC website that there are no required test scores to achieve, but that they do review them. Good luck to everyone!

There is a required test score!!!! Atleast 75% in Math and 75% in A&P all other sections must be a 70%. That is what is considered passing to them.

Wow, RalphieG, you know she's right.... This is off the Hesi FAQ from Broward. I would still try to get as high a grade as possible, as we all know how things can change on a regular basis. There is no required score, but obviously they will take the higher ones first and possibly the lower (under 75) scores will be held aside until the end of the admission phase?

7. What are the required scores for the A2 Assessment Test to be eligible to apply

to the nursing program?

After completion of the required five (5) tests of the HESI A2, students can submit the

Nursing application within the posted application period. There are no required scores,

however, the test scores will be reviewed. Students are encouraged to prepare for the test

and do their best based on skills and abilities derived from coursework and experience in

these content areas.

Nursing literature documents that students who do well on the HESI A2 are more likely to

add to their "academic readiness" for the reading/study demands as they enter the nursing

program and begin the first nursing course.

See I know this because my app was held, because the first time I took the HESI I didn't do well in math. The minute that I re-took the HESI and turned in my scores I got accepted so know that if you don't get the minimum scores you run a risk that you will be turned down. When I applied they said that you didn't have to get any type of scores, but it was all that mattered.

I was just wondering if anyone has gotten an email regarding the August pre-admission meeting we have to attend.
