New thread started for all those applying for / accepted to / attending Broward College January 2011. Chime in, let us know how you're doing!
The program is 5 semesters long. Depending on which semester you start, it can be anywhere from 19-21 months. I think for Jan and May start times, it would be 19 months and for Aug its 21. (Jan and May people have a whole semester they go during summer, so thats shorter, and Aug people have two semesters ending in Dec where they start again in Jan and theres about a 3.5 week break each time, which is why the Aug people take a little longer).
Technically, its 4 and a half semesters because you have the second half of your first summer off. So you would go: Jan-May, then first half of your first summer term, which is May-June, June-Aug off, then Aug-Dec, then Jan-May and then May-Aug. Graduate Aug 2012.
This is what you take and when:
Jan-Mar Nursing Process 1
Mar-May Nursing Process 2
May-June GIGU
June-Aug off
Aug-Oct Specialty (either Peds, OB, or Psych)
Oct-Dec Specialty (either Peds, OB, or Psych)
Jan-Mar Specialty (either Peds, OB, or Psych)
Mar-May Ortho/Neuro
May-June Cardio
June-Aug Trends
Your schedule is lecture Mon and Fri 9-12, and then clinical on T or W for 12hrs. I go to north and they do things a little different first semester. We had to go both T and W from 630-230 instead of 12 hrs once a week. Also you will have Math for 4 hrs once a week for 4 weeks during Process 1, and Pharm once a week for 2 hrs for 16 weeks (the entire first semester). At north, Pharm was on Mon from 5-7pm, and math was either Thurs 8-12, Thurs 1-5 or Friday 1-5. I don't know what days central and south do for pharm or math. I think central is pharm on Thursday but they have 2 instructors so I don't know when the other pharm class was.
After the first semester, its really just lecture M and F 9-12 and Clinical once a week. At north, there are 2 courses where the lecture is 1-4, which is GIGU and Ortho/Neuro, just because they need the big classroom which is used for Process 1&2 from 9-12. Also, each course we had a few campus lab days where we had to be on campus for clinical on T and W, but I don't know how the other campuses work this. I think its still once a week.

Thanks for all the info!
congrats!!!! You see you made it!!!!!
Thank you! Yay, I"m so happy we made it! Congrats to all of us, can't wait to see you all at the info session, well, the one at 1 anyway. : ) Does anyone know how the scheduling works if you're planning on doing the online program? Random though: YAY!!
I'll be honest in hopes it will calm some of you down.
I got accepted for Spring term. I had 5 point and scored:
78 on the HESI anatomy
96 on reading,
86 on math
80 on vocab
78 English.
The average score on the HESI is under 75% so don't let some of these inflated scores scare you. Also remember they take your highest score, meaning some may have taken the test several times. For those of you who actually scored in the 90%, don't take it personal.I just wont to offer a word of encouragement for those who are doubt. :redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe:redbeathe
If nursing is your calling then you will make it.
I got accepted and had 10 points and originally an 88% on the Hesi...but I retook the Anatomy section of the Hesi because I only score a 72%. The second time I scored 88% on that section...so not really sure what my total % was once that was averaged in. It looks like they are accepting a wide range of people, so don't get discouraged! I began to get discouraged after applying to 3 schools, waiting and the hearing that they didn't consider me because they never received something. I just kept my head up and knew that God would make it happen if that was my destiny! So don't give up!!! :flwrhrts::yelclap:
