Broward College hopeful for May 2013 Nursing Program

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!

So I picked up the perry potter study guide and test for success books today. This is what I am doing to prepare.

Monday- read perry & potter

Tuesday- math skills

Wednesday- perry & potter again

Thursday- test success

Friday- either math or test success

I'm going to be reading during my sons 2 hour nap since he requires my attention all other times.

Question: do you think I should fill out and answer the questions now as I read and then read over them as the semester begins, or wait until the assigned chapter is given?

You're lucky your son naps! Mine stopped under age 2 :( Right now she sleeps late in the morning and goes to PM preschool. Then stays up too late. Visit the South Campus preschool. BC offers a good deal. I did not like the one at North, but they are independently run. If your child is 4 by Sept 1, VPK is free at many places anyway. We are going to do all day camp this summer and kindergarten in the Fall. If all goes well, we will be graduates and nurses by 2015. Only 20 months for us summer starters

Hello all! Looks like you guys have gotten started on getting your supplies. That's great. So far I only have the perry & potter text bk. I've been reading a looot so far. Lol I found the syllabus and reading list for north campus so I've been following that...I'm set on going to south though so I hope the syllabuses are similar.

Yay another south person!

Does she go to the south campus preschool?

Does she go to the south campus preschool?

OMG, no. I am far from there. If its a decent school, it is worth a look because BC students can get a good price.

Hi. Did anybody took the HSC courses from BC online and finished it?

I signed up and finished it like 2 weeks ago. The HSC courses were all listed in my course list in D2L when I was taking it, but when I checked today... they're all gone? Is this normal?

And I haven't received a phone call or a certificate by mail yet. Thanks

I took them through BC an finished them about 2 weeks ago. I received my certificates last Saturday in the mail although they spelled my name wrong on one of them. I already contacted the professor who forwarded my concern to the person that does the certificates. Are you doing CPR through BC too? I have it the 24th what about you?

Did your course disappeared in your D2L too when you completed it? I set mine to be picked up in Central campus and only one sent by mail(the TB/OSHA). I took the CPR class at Paramount Services at Stirling Road and they are AHA. I was going to register for the CPR class in BC before, but I saw all the classes are conflict to my schedules. That's why I took it at Paramount instead and its only 3 Hrs class :)

Hello,

If you don't mind me asking, what was it that you did not like about the North preschool program? It there a difference with all the other campuses. I tried to get more information online, but was very unsuccessful.

Congrats and Thanks.

My courses disappeared too. How much was Paramount?

My stethoscope, bandage scissors, and pen light came today!! I bought a cheap sphygmomanometer to in order to practice BPs, not sure if we need one or not but I figured it couldn't hurt. By the way I love my stethoscope, it sounds great!!

I stopped there on several occasions and they were never willing to do an impromptu tour. Appointments only. That is a major red flag. Not only do I want to be able to walk in at any time and see for myself what is going on, a policy that is recommended by NAEYC and other expert authorities, I want to be able to go in the classroom and even participate. The hoyty-toyty preschools in my area all allow that and all give impromptu tours. They also don't use a recognizable curriculum. That school always has a waiting list, so I guess they don't feel as competitive as other preschools to impress parents by using recommended practices. Parents should check out at least a few preschools before making a choice. I don't know anything about preschools at other campuses because I did not check into them. As I said preciously, they are independently owned and managed, so they are as different from each other as any other preschool and should each be evaluated on their own merits.

Friedrice - good to know the training at Paramount went well. I am planning to take it there, too.

Stacie-awesome suggestions. I'm getting the study guides, too. Thanks so much!

It was only $49 and staff and the Instructor are very nice. You don't need to buy any book or valve at Paramount. I think they have a CPR class schedule tomorrow. you can check their website :)
