I know there is a lot of confusion going around with the new requirements for the BC nursing program so I wanted to start a thread for those of us finishing prerequisites and applying in January. I'm in the Core class now, but other than that I'm finished with everything else and getting very excited to start next year!
Actually it will be offered to the August 2013 and beyond before they begin the program. It may be because your on the 'retack' phase. It is SLS1501 for nursing students only.It has been helpful so far. I just do not understand why they offer this class to students who fail instead of before students start the program.
Hello all, this is my first post although I have been a lurker for awhile. I FINALLY was able to get my application in today for May 2013 and I had a question about the point system. My GPA gave me 11 points, and my Broward residency gave me another 1, for a total of 12. My HESI was pretty good at 97% composite, but there are no points on the list for that. Do we get points for the HESI, or is it just eyeballed by someone in the admissions office and taken into consideration? My GPA took a hit when I got a B in Chemistry and one A&P lab so I am very worried I won't get in, but then again I have no frame of reference for this situation.
Thank you in advance for your information and I hope to see you all this May!

I think u have a good chance from what I've read from other classes. People have gotten in with 7. No points for HESI but will use it in a tie. Good luck!

You have a strong application. From what I've heard and read on other threads, students have been admitted with as little as 7 points. The HESI is used to break a tie, but also to establish minimum requirements. According to the Broward College Nursing Admissions information sheet, the cut scores for HESI are 85% on reading, 80% on everything else. With a 97% composite, you probably met those minimum requirements. I wouldn't worry! Good Luck!
When I dropped my application off I asked how the campus selection was decided, and the Admissions person said it depended on how many people they decide to seat and then first come first serve. That led me to believe that the usual suspects of South, Central, and North are all in play, but maybe someone else knows different?

They are adding it as a prerequisite for the nursing program next year. You are the second person who has mentioned how helpful the SLS class is. It is definitely too bad they don't yet offer it to new nursing students.
