Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,
I'm starting this thread for students looking to start(ing), and (or) finishing there pre's by spring of 2013 at Broward College. Also for those who are entering (or) looking to enter the Nursing Program in Fall 2013.
We are exactly one year away from this program. So tell me what classes are you taking or have left?
I have Fall Math Intermediate, A&P II lab only, and Computers (need 6 credits to get loans.) Winter College Algebra or Statistics and Chem 1032& Chem lab
Summer Microbiology and Micro Lab.
Yesterday I visted advisement at South, and when I was leaving I got a wake up call that now I will only live, eat, breath nursing school. I never felt this way before. Once me and my advisor went over my Education Plan I started to feel that school going to get harder. Hey I can do this and so can you.
** Let me know your thoughts guys. Until....
Are you sure you have to wait 6 months to retake the HESI? I think that will be the case starting August 2013. I would double check that if I were you. This is what I found on the HESI Q & A:
http://www.broward.edu/academics/programs/nursing/Documents/AdmissionAssessmentTestFAQ.pdf
11. Can the test be retaken?
Yes. Re-test is permitted after the initial unsuccessful testing result with an additional cost for the
test applied for every attempt. However, as of August 2013 will have a limit of only two (2) attempts
for the HESI Test with six (6) months between the first and second attempt. The second attempt
requires the HESI A2, Version 2.
It doesn't say August 2013 nursing entrance applicants, just the date. Last time I checked we're not in August. I say you study your butt off and go retake that test and stay on track to apply for next term. If they say no, fight it. The wording does not reflect that you can't retake it right now. Just my opinion though.

You know what, your right. It is very confusing and it conflicts with what is stated on the Health Science Program prerequisite and Selection Criteria, which states,
"For August 2013 applicants and beyond:
there is a limit of only two (2) attempts for the HESI Test with at least six (6) months
between the first and second attempt
required (version 2 of the exam is to taken
on the second attempt)..."

I will send the Dean an email today for clarification. Thanks for bring this up.
You're very welcome and I hope you can retake that test! If the dean doesn't get back to you then I would say you can probably ask the central campus testing center instructor that is in charge of scheduling. I think you still have a shot! :)
I was told it was implemented as of Spring 2013; and that they will update the FAQ's for the HESI. I will have to study more to do better next time. Thanks so much for the words of advice and encouragement; and don't forget to come back to let us know how Nursing school is going for you.
I just took the HESI this morning, I scored 81% overall so I did not pass either. The math was 90% fractions and the rest were ratios. A few conversions , she told me I need to wait 6 months but all i was doing today was crying. I am so depressed and I feel like an idiot. My GPA is 3.6 but I have nothing to show for it at this point. I am 26..what am I suppose to do...keep waiting 6 months in hopes i will finally pass an entrance exam? lots of good potential nurses go to waste due to this. I don't even know what my other options are. I know FIU does not require a HESI entrance exam, just an exit exam. Chamberlain requires a 70 overall or 75 to pass the hesi however..it consists of Biology and Chem on top of the norm math, reading, vocab and grammar. They say they mostly look at those three areas but then the bio and chem will being down my score more. I don't know what to do!!!!!

Hi Yankeesgirl907... I'm so sorry that you're going through this. Have you thought about Nova? I don't think they require an entrance exam, but they do require additional classes. Nova was my back up school if I didn't get accepted into BC the first time around. I know it's very pricey, but if this is what you want than you may want to consider other schools in the mean time. You could take the pre-reqs for other nursing schools while you wait to retake the HESI so you're not just letting time pass by. Not to mention these classes will not be a waste because they are the same requirements you would eventually have to complete in order to do your BSN. Just a thought...
I really hope you feel better soon!

I know how you feel...don't give up. I find myself crying at times because I am not only doing it for me, it's more for my child. If you have to go to a different county for school, then do so. There are many options out there, but may require additional requirements. Chamberlain is good, but almost $85k.

I met with an advisor at Chamberlain and I know it would be just a little cheaper if I transferred my credits from Broward over which she already told me they take, however she said that when it comes time for the on campus classes they are from 9-4 about 4 days a week ! Can someone please explain to me how I am going to pay my rent on that ?!?! How do people do it ? I just looked at every school in south florida for nursing and MOST only require a 70 to pass the HESI !!!! I would of gotten in ! and you too ! Oh due to me taking the test April 6th, that means I cannot take the HESI again until October 6th which means I MISS THE DEADLINE for the Nursing programs in January 2014 ! which means I can't start until MAY !!!!!!! a whole year literally wasted on absolutely nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just so mad words cannot describe.

Thanks for the reassurance, I really appreciate it because I've been a bit upset, not only for the fact I didn't pass, but I have to wait 6 whole month to retake it again. God knows best.
I hope you all do well.
