Brookhaven College Nursing Program Fall 2014

Published

Hi everyone, I haven't seen any thread about BHC Fall '14 so I made one! I am applying this February at Brookhaven community college for Fall 2014. I took Hesi last year for trial and I will be taking the Hesi for real again this February and I have been studying really hard this Winter break! Goodluck everyone, if I do not get accepted I have plan B which to go ahead and try to apply in UTA.

Almost finished in all precourses needed just Micro and death dying this Spring but they are not counted this application so I am hoping to do well in Hesi!

Each persons ears are different, just because you hear well out of one doesn't mean another person will. The thicker the tubing of the stethoscope the better amplified the sound. I have a MDF which in my opinion is just as great as a littman for a fraction of the cost. You will also need a folding clipboard, bandage scissors, and I even went as far as to order a dual headed stethoscope because you will use this for checkoffs during first semester skills and they suck! You can hardly hear anything so I really needed to work with one to get used to it, there are only a limited number available to use in the lab, perhaps y'all can go in together and get some to share the cost.

I agree about the socks and shoes!!! I will tell you that I went to the new balance store and bought a pair of their all white leather shoes and some inserts, cost me an arm and a leg, but I haven't had edema yet, and my feet/legs aren't sore when the day is finally over. They sell the compression socks at Walmart and the scrub store I mentioned at the Allen outlet mall. I didn't have the socks first semester and I have the veins in my legs to prove it!

Oh and you are going to have to do 16 hours of community service for clinicals! If you are wanting to volunteer at one of the children's hospitals or something, start looking at it now and fill out their applications because some of them take forever for background checks processing and all that good stuff! :)

Thanks for all the great information!!! Nervous & excited for the semester to start.

I'm getting caught up on all the info in the news feed and I can honestly say I'm slightly scared :barf02:. abenton111 and the others thank you for all the additional information. In regards to the books, I spoke to Nancy and she said the Fundamentals book was not in the packet at the bookstore but gave me isbn number 9780138024611 I order the international copy for only $52 on abebooks.com. I've ordered books from the site before and never had any issues with the international versions.

Know with the international version of books most people won't "buy back". Once you buy it it's yours forever!! I have a psych book that I made that mistake with, it's makes an excellent doorstop ;). You will use the foundations book for everything!!! First semester it will be your bible, second semester you will keep using it for skills plus your other books!

Are there any good nursing/medical smartphone apps you all would recommend?

I like the NCLEX RN app, and I would say go to a place like half price books and buy up a bunch of nclex books

Agree ^ the nclex mastery app is like the Holy grail for all exams, especially hesis and hopefully the nclex. It's a little pricey but sometimes it goes on sale. It's 100% worth the price.

does anyone know the difference on the Print + ebook or Print Only option for the 1st semester package. $100 more for the ebook version - wondering if that's worth it?

Any of the current nursing students - Is there a need to have the foundations book on ebook? Appreciate any advice on this. Is it worth $100 more?

You do not need the ebook. Most instructors won't let you use electronic devices (such as ereaders, laptops, ipads, etc) in the classroom anyway.
