Brookhaven Admittance Points

Published

I am new to this site and would like some info from those who have been admitted to, or have finished, Brookhaven's A.S. Nursing Program.

I already have a B.S. Business Administration (Biology minor). I currently have a 4.0 Gpa and ,as of the end of this Fall 09 semester, will only lack 3 support classes all of which will be taken in Spring 2010. I took the Hesi yesterday and made a 95.5. I am not applying until January, for Fall Admission 2010. That gives me only 31 points when I apply.

I am 44 yrs old and NEED to get in on my first try. I don't have years to wait.

Do you think 31 points is good enough to get into the Brookhaven program the first time? I certainly appreciate any input from previous students or graduates. Thank you so much!

Yep I think you will have an excellent shot at getting in... Usually if you have 28 or higher (from what I have heard/read) you will get in. And your chances will be increased in the Fall bc MVC and Brookhaven admit at the same time.

I sure hope 31 points is good enough to get in..that is what I applied with!!! keeping my fingers crossed for everyone!!!!

I am confuse on how are these points calculated. can someone explain it me, please?

i am also confuse with these points system...

can some1 help me with it?

Hi. I'm also applying for Fall and I have 30 pts. Last application, Brookhaven accepted 40 applicants and the cut off was around 31 something. This time I thought they were accepting 40 and Mountain view accepting 30-40 but I spoke to the admin today while turning in my application, she told me that Mountain view will not be accepting any students and they will finish out their current class and will branch off from Brookhaven and do their own thing. Admin also told me that they are trying to add another 10 openings to make 50 this application period but she doesn't know when that will be known for sure. I think 31 is a for sure shot if they do add that extra 10, but I think you will get in with your points. I will have to start studying for my HESI retake since I only found out about the news today. I need a better score to boost my 30 up a little more. Wish me luck! I'm just sooooooooooooo afraid of getting a lower score....

BTW I'm trying to score better than a 86.62...I just want at least an 89! :)

I believe the cutoff for the Spring 2010 class was 31. Maybe 31.25, but I 'm not exactly sure. There were 230 applicants for this class but there are usually many more for Fall semesters. I believe the class that started Fall 2009 said there were upwards of 400, but they were accepting at Mountain View that semester so 80 were accepted. It sounds like Fall 2010 is only accepting 40(maybe 50).

Good luck to everyone!!! The hard work is sure to pay off!

can anyone tell me this points system in HESI test?:banghead:

The point system works like this:

You take your HESI score and subtract 75 from that number. Then to that product you add your GPA ( i.e 4.0=4 points etc). Then you add the credits for the various support courses..there are a total of 12 I believe. If you have applied to the program once before they will automatically ADD 3 points to your final points number. This will give you your final score. They have a list of all support courses on their website and how many points they give you for each one.

I applied Thursday for the first time with 33.45 points. All of the nursing professors I know and the support staff were very encouraging in that they seemed to think that would be enough points to secure entry to the program BUT with each semester it gets more and more competitive. Getting into nursing school isn't NEAR as easy as it used to be. I have a 4.0 , all but 2 support courses completed ( and I am enrolled in both now so I will have ALL completed by May 2010) and a 96 on HESI and I am worried about getting into a community college nursing program. Oh yeah..I also have a Bachelors Degree in Business Admin with a minor in Biology. But I AM worried because it has become almost as hard to get into nursing school as it is to get into Med School! My best advice to anyone is to STUDY for HESI and if you knock that out of ballpark then you will be in great place. Some HESI advice: STUDY Reading Comprehension. They grade that in 4 different ways.IF I had studied for that portion I could have come VERY close to getting 100. HESI is not hard at all....just study for it. This is where the majority of your points for Brookhaven program come from...

Good luck to everyone! As I get more info I will post it! :)

I too have a bachelor's degree and I am working on a Master's degree... but I really want to be nurse rather than sitting at a desk all day long in Corporate America... blah! I agree Nursing School is tough! Just a thought... Texas Tech doesn't require an entrance exam...

Welcome65, you will surely get in with your points. I applied with a 32.89 so crossing all my fingers and toes!
