Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn?

U.S.A. New York

I was wondering if anyone can tell me, What is the starting pay at Brookdale Hospital? How is it like working there? How is the hiring process like? Thanks!

I was wondering the samething too. I recently drop off my resume there.

I don't know about starting pay but that might be the worst worst possible hospital to work at. My friend did her rotation there and couldn't wait for it to be over. Patients weren't clean, poorly cared for, and the CNA don't help at all. Its in a very bad neighborhood also. I would take a job there if i had no choice but be carefull

wow!!! thanks.

It's not the best hospital but they do have a great starting pay for even new grads. They just hired 22 nurses last month with the economy being the way it is now you can't be too picky. The neighborhood isn't the best but far from the worst. Working here you get many different patients with a wide variety of disorders so you learn a whole lot.

Thanks BetterME29!

I emailed the nursing recruiter my resume few weeks ago, but haven't heard anything. Were the 22 nurses all new graduates?

I thought brookdale was on a strike last month. An agency sent out email looking for per diem nurses of any position to come fill in the openings. I wonder how they are doing now...

No, Brookdale is not on strike they are holding demonstrations because their healthcare benefits are up in limbo. Some of the nurses were very angry and didn't show up to work so they needed to fill the spots with per diem nurses.

@brooklynne, most of the new nurses were indeed new graduates. Most of the RN's came with BSNs. I would suggest next time they are hiring don't email resume, if you live in Brooklyn like your name suggests go on down there and hand it in in person....FYI.

Better. I gave my resume to the nurse recruiters 2 times and they never called, and I waw refered.by someone who personally know the nurse recruiter

Thanks Betterme for the advice. I will go there and hand it in person because email is not working for me at all. I really want to work there. Do you think they're still hiring?

Brookdale is located on Rockaway and Linden. The neighborhood is NOT far from the worst, but I guess that is just my perspective. If you do take a job there, you WILL get many different patients with a wide variety of disorders. The neighborhood is very poor and with that comes the high crime rate. Expect alot of assault victims (shootings, stabbings, rapes, child abuse etc.), and then alot of sniffle and cold cases on one end of the spectrum as well as alot of incurable diseases with hard to pronounce names and origins overseas on the other end of the spectrum.

The way that I would judge a hospital is to ask if that is a hospital that I would want family or friends to go to if needed and the answer is a resounding NO! The others that I would highly recommend against are Woodhull, Lincoln and North Central Bronx. That's just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth.
