Hi there!
I have a quick question. Do broken collar bones usually result from a too big baby in a smallish mom? If this is too much of a med. question, could anyone direct me in where to find reputable info? I am pg w/ my 3rd child. 2nd was 9 lbs and broke his collar bone during delivery. Labor was not induced, but I did have an epidural and pushing lasted about 10 mins. My dr is talking about possibly inducing me early, at 38 wks. My inclination is NO as my 1st child was induced and SO much more painful than #2. Just wondered what the risks would be of going naturally and possibly having a 10 pounder :) TIA

I hesitate to give an opinion as I am not an expert in this area, but would recommend you ask your MD about resource information. He/She can order articles from the hospital library to pass along to you. Also, your MD should know your personal situation the best and can help interpret the information as it pertains to you. Good luck with your pregnancy!

If you tend to disagree with the proposed treatment suggested by your dr, you should tell him or her how you feel and why and discuss this IN DEPTH with him or her.
I wish you the best in your labor/delivery experience. I can't stress enough, you need to be able to trust your health care provider here----you can always seek a 2nd opinion, if you are unsure.
But this is the limit of information or help I can impart here. We just cannot give you advice regarding the medical nature, nor would I refer you to articles or such to do your own research. It's really something you have to take up with your OB/ Midwife now. Take care.

I've seen shoulder dystocia with an 8lb baby and 11 lbers delivered without difficulty. It's a very individual thing.
