Hi. I am new here. I don't know exactly where to go. I am a registered nurse here in the Philippines and I am interested in studying in Australia for a bridging course that will help me become a registered nurse there. I need some help on looking for a good school that offers a bridging course.
My aunt told me that a friend of her friend just went to AU to take up a test and in 6 months she's there for a bridging program. and I have this friend who has a friend who became a registered nurse in AU in 6 months time too. This agency is offering me to study for a certificate III aged care with occupational English test for 46 weeks in Einstein College but it costs too much. So now, I am trying to look for a school wherein I can apply by myself and hopefully get in. I am hoping I could leave for AU this June 2011. I am a bit lost on what to do. Can you help me, please? Any suggestions? ? Please help me. Thank you very much.
(Sydney area would be better since my parents are more familiar and in favor of that place... though other cities/areas will be great too)
Hi everyone! I'm wondering how long it usually takes AHPRA to process application for registration after completing an IRON course. I'm currently on student visa which will expire about a month from the end date of my IRON course. Within that short time, i plan to complete my registration, send EOI and apply for PR (my point for visa 189 is 65). Do you think it's feasible? Thanks
AHPRA takes about 2 weeks... ANMAC 2-4 weeks... waiting for invitation after submitting EOI... depends on many circumstances...
At the very least you may be able to submit your docs for ANMAC assessment before your visa expires.
Thanks for your response cucci, RN. I don't understand the ANMC bit. So after AHPRA registration, I have to submit docs to ANMC again? Don't they work together? Will I pay for that as well? Can you please explain a bit more? Can I start applying for jobs after AHPRA registration? Thanks heaps

AHPRA is the authority that registers and regulates healthcare practitioners in Australia.
ANMAC assesses the skills of internationally qualified nurses and midwives who want to migrate to Australia under the General Skilled Migration program.
Once you gain AHPRA registration, you can already find an employer who is willing to sponsor your working visa in Australia. This used to be subclass 457 visa but this was replaced by TSS or subclass 482. Foremost among the changes that affects prospective migrants is that one cannot lodge a PR visa until 3 years under the TSS visa. The number of grant-years can either be 2 or 4 years depending on whether your skills fall under short term or the medium-long term needs.
Now, if you want to go direct to the PR/migrant path (subclass 189/190/489), you will have to go through the assessment process of ANMAC to guage your skills for migration purposes. Since this is a separate agency, you will need to submit new set of documents.
Basically, if you have no intention of migrating, then no need for ANMAC but since most of the time migration is the eventual goal AHPRA and ANMAC are discussed together.
Thanks so much for your detailed explanation cucci, RN. I completely forgot that there is skill assessment before EOI. The whole process is just too cumbersome. I guess I need to start looking into visa options to be able to complete the PR application. It's no fun being on temporary visas in Australia so i'm not considering employer sponsorship. Kind regards.
PPD's are usually performed by pediatricians. You can ask around your locality for pedias who have or maintain stocks of the PPD.
Also, I have another question, I was told that most Filipinos residing in the Philippines will have a false positive result for PPD. Will they still accept the application regardless?

Yes, my PPD was positive with 10mm induration, but my chest x-ray was clear. Due to still high incidence of TB in the Phils. and considering our profession, it is common to get false positive results. If you really want to be 100% sure that it is false positive even with clear chest x-ray, you can opt to have your sputum tested, but clear chest x-ray would suffice.

I couldn't agree more. With the new conditions of the TSS (subclass 482) specifically the 3 year period before one can apply for PR, it's really a pain. Unlike the with 457 that you can already apply anytime.
For most, I guess the prime consideration of passing through temporary skilled work visa is the cost. The BP pushes you back around 700k (documentation, AHPRA, COGS, ICHC, tuition, visitor visa, airfare, cost of living, etc). That's a very conservative estimate. Of course easily paid back when you get employed immediately after the course.
But since waiting time for PR visa processing can take from 9-12 months according to DHA's website, some cannot wait that long or have the finances to pay for the PR visa application (3,670 AUD if only one applicant). As such, the temporary work seems a more viable option. At least you are already there, earning way more than what you can earn while in the Phils while waiting for your PR visa.
Again, let me reiterate that this pathway was a good choice because of the privileges of the subclass 457. However, now with the TSS (482), it is still a viable option, albeit not as good as the 457.

I figured. But will the school allow a different test? Like chest x-ray and sputum instead?

There should be no reason why they won't accept... sputum test would be the most reliable. But again why go that far when only PPD is being asked... unless you fear an adverse reaction to the POD. The itchiness lass more than a week.

I see, I was just wondering since they only put PPD as the acceptable evidence for TB. Did you also go to ACN? What did you submit to them?
