Has anyone gone through the Breckinridge School of Nursing program at ITT Tech? & if so how was the program? Did you pass boards? & Were you able to find an RN job? I am looking into going to the Merrillville, Indiana location.

Good day:
ITT Tech has an extremely poor reputation. Check with your community colleges for a far better alternative.
Thank you.

ITT has a very poor reputation with hospitals and especially with the BON. The NCLEX pass rates for ITT Merrillville were:

2012: 61.5% (16/26)

2013: 55.7% (34/61)
2014: 42.6% (26/61)

Wow, in any of the states I've practiced in over the years, those kinds of numbers would get you shut down by the BON. How do they stay in business?

Hi Renea219
I haven't attended Breckinridge but there are several people here who have. If you do a search of the school name you'll find a ton of information. I'm sorry I didn't link a thread I'm using my phone. Good luck with school! I'd love to hear how things turn out for you.

Your thread has been moved to the Nursing Schools and Colleges forum where the other school specific discussions are. We hope you will receive additional responses in this new location.
Indiana BON tries to do everything to get a school to turn itself around. The problem is that nearly all of these schools are for profit and by closing them down, the current students can't transfer credits (or only transfer to another school in trouble) to a community college or state university. If the BON stops the school from accepting any new students, then the income drops off, instructors quit, and the current students wont be able to finish. Ideally, they need a quality school to accept the credits from these schools and then shut the school down.
Why would, or should, a "quality school" accept credits from a substandard school with substandard accreditation? These students are all, by definition, adults who made choices. I'm sorry they made bad choices but that happens sometimes, to all of us. IMO, the problem has been allowing these schools to continue to operate this long (and prey on people who don't know any better), but I don't feel it's the obligation of any other school to bail out students who made poor choices about what school to attend.
